Model Overview:

It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.

Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

In moving from a Mercedes E-350 Sedan after two years to the BMW 528i (Premium, Luxury, Seating, Driver Assistance Pkg.) Im now asking what took me so long? From handling to comfort to every bell and whistle, and the turbo engine (who needs the 535i) its simply a much better automobile.

  • An Awesome car beats the 2004 model 5 - 2003 BMW 5-Series

This car is nothing short of amazing, the ride makes you literally feel like you floating in a leer jet. The build quality doesnt get any better than this, I mean there is hardly any plastic used in this car whats so ever its all high quality vinyl. The leather is so buttery soft makes me never want to exit the car. I had previously owned a Mercedes before this, this 5 Series compared to the Mercedes is like night and day. Mercedes needs to learn what quality and reliability is then they will have more customers, like BMW..

  • 1St BMW? Skip the power - 2003 BMW 5-Series
    By -

This is my first BMW. I was intent on the 530 but couldnt find exactly what I was looking for. The dealer gave me a 525 Sport for 3 days. SOLD. Still after 6 months, Im impressed with the giddup-and -go! My next BMW (2006) will be a 530 and Im sure Ill have a renewed excitement but this 2.5 is more than fine. Caution: you will have to learn to drive all over again. Super tight handling can throw you a loop when avoiding road debris, etc. Dont worry about the cupholders. I now only allow bottled water in my car. Theyre low and a bit flimsey but available on eBay cheap. 6 mos. no problems and no messes front or back.

  • 5 Series Excellence - 2003 BMW 5-Series

The 5 Series 2003 model is the apex of design and build excellence. The six cylinder (an engine BMW has perfected) is smooth, quick and dependable. The sport package (with rims and M steering wheel) is well worth the price. Buying this vehicle in 2003, before the new controversial style, was the smartest auto purchase Ive ever made. The 2004 has considerable shoes to fill. Keep in mind that this version of the 5 series scored the highest rating ever in Consumer Reports. Ever.

  • Nikasil engine is a killer - 1995 BMW 5-Series
    By -

I have this vehicle since its new. However, it came with a nikasil V8 instead of alusil V8. Gradually the high sulphur of US fuel started to cause problems with the engine. Now it needs engine replacement, $9k plus labor. If you own one with an alusil engine, you should buy a lottery ticket. If you are thinking about getting a used one, you must make sure what type of engine it has. Check the engine block numbers before buying it. Its a very serious problem!

  • A grocery getter for those who love cars - 1993 BMW 5-Series

This car has so far been a flawless performer. Its enjoyable to drive, and Im convinced its one of the best wagons ever made. The car is very well built and designed inside and out and has delivered on the BMW name and reputation.

Great car, all-in-all. We will definitely buy another, probably in the 7 series next time around.

  • Best car I have ever owned. - 2003 BMW 5-Series
    By -

This is the only 4 door sedan to own. Look no further as I have test driven the competition. Save your $$ and opt for the 2.5 engine as it is as quick as you ever need to drive after 40 miles per hour (not a jack rabbit start, but who needs one). Luxury abounds with interior appointments. Handling is a dream. With the sport package, this is the best looking car on the road in its class.
