Overview & Reviews
It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.
Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

Worth the wait..... - 1998 BMW 5-Series
By dlgseattle - December 20 - 2:00 amFriends in our small Midwest town cannot understand why I "settled" for this car when a new Chevy could have been purchased for the same price. If they could only drive this beauty, they would understand. The performance and handling of this car is pure joy compared to its American counterparts. In addition to being rock solid at 90+MPH (reflecting its autobahn roots), it handles the tightest of curves like a steel rollercoaster. I can barely stand to drive the family minivan anymore!

Best choice of whats out there - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By truckerit - December 16 - 2:00 amI shopped around between passat,a6,forester,e-class. i narrowed it down to the a6, 528, & forester. I really liked the a6, but West Broad VW/AUDI serviced my vw also was the only place that serviced audi here in richmond va. so being as they screwed me already on the vw I was trading in, I opted for the 528. Driving this car is such a joy. Its not the most mechanically sound auto. My car is about 5 yrs old now & things are starting to give. My powersteering died & ABS cpu died. Ive spent about $2500 in repairs after i purchased, but its a bmw, its got character.

Love my 530 - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By LoveMy530/Gihugic - December 13 - 10:00 amThe new 5 series is a truely amazing vehicle. Ive owned an A6 and driven all of the competition and the 530 is on a whole new level. This is the most quiet, smooth and feature loaded car Ive ever driven. I love looking at it, sitting in it and best of all driving it. Steptronic is much improved over previous years and performance and braking are above the competition. Id highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a true German sports sedan.

New 525i is Sweet - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By Woody the Terp - December 13 - 10:00 amThe new 5 series is a completely different car in all aspects -- comfort, handling, sophistication, and luxury. I opted for the 6-speed manual just for the fun of it, and with the smaller 6 cylinder engine, I thought it would be a help. I test drove the automatic, though, and that would have been fine. For about 4 grand more, you can get the 530i. The extra horsepower [225 I believe]makes a huge difference in acceleration from 40mph - other than that, I felt the 525is power was more than adequate.

Excellent choice - 2001 BMW 5-Series
By too fast - December 9 - 2:00 amIf youre like me and had to give up the vette or some other two seater toy for the family....the 540 six, or M5 should certainly delete and sadness! This car is great, and if I didnt see the 4 doors it could easily pass for a true sports car. Ive disappointed a few cars including a CLK430, 99M3 (modified) and recently the new 350Z. Its the best all in one car I can think of at the moment that provides family time and performance driving!

Great Car! - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By Reddog - December 7 - 2:00 amBought my 2004 in November off the show room floor. Have previously had Corvettes, Mercedes, and Infinities, and this car beats them all. Love the new styling look and the Steptronic 6 speed. My wife loves the automatic drive. Excellent acceleration, handling and braking. This car has a whole bunch of style. I was looking at 2003 models when I saw the car I bought on the show room floor. My wife and I looked at it and cancelled our ongoing deal on a 2003 and bought the 2004 right there on the spot.
