Model Overview:

It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.

Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

Love the car. find the driver seat needs more settings for shorter driver & prefer not to have the i-drive for radio control

  • My best car - 2004 BMW 5-Series

I just traded in my 03 530I after going for a test drive in the new 5 series. It is a great looking car that gets attention from other motorist. It has a sporty look without a sports package. The interior is more spacious. I love the I drive, the improve sound system, and the 6 speed tramission. This car is a winner.

  • Poor Quality - 2006 BMW 5-Series

I special ordered a 2006 530i after already owning and loving a 1998 528i. I received the car, loved it, but immediately started having problems with the high battery drain check control message. I had it in the shop 3 times for this. Then the thermostat and waterpump needed to be replaced. The car was at the dealership for about 20 days out of the first 6 weeks I owned it. They are replacing the car for me since it was headed toward a lemon law claim really soon. I have been in a loaner car the whole time. The service has been great but the car really did not meet expectations for quality. Not what you would expect.

  • A sad day - 1995 BMW 5-Series

Sorry to be emotional but....today i traded my 525 i for a new 2003 325i. long story short...the 95 525i was the best car I have ever owned and (sorry to be corny) but I almost cried at the dealership - and felt like a total traitor when I walked away from my eight year love affair with my first BMW. the cars are truly "the ultimate driving machine" the 525i continued to handle and drive like it did eight years ago - firm, agile and taut. a great car. It saved my life when I was rear-ended by a drunk driver who was going over 50 mph. thanks - I will miss you

  • Performs as promised - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Ive driven this car for 3 weeks and I continue to be impressed daily with the smooth steady powerband of the V-8 and the very quick handling dynamics. This car surprises you with what it can do. Build quality and fit and finish is excellent and I enjoy driving a car that is distinctive in design. This is a car that provides the comfort of a large car and the handling of a well- balanced sport sedan. I have owned 4 cars from the other 2 German competitors in the past 12 years and the BMW is by far superior to them all.

  • Love my new 5 series! - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Very fun to drive. Lots of power you wouldnt believe it is only a 6 cylinder. The iDrive is not bad once you learn how to operate it. It took about 45 minutes just sitting in the car, with the owners manual, and playing with it to learn the system. Once you figure everything out you will love the car.

  • First model year - 1997 BMW 5-Series

97 is the first model year of the 528i (build starts 96). I think many 97 528 owners, many of the them have the same problems. The rear power window regulator breaks. Water pump would go at about 70k mi. power seat have problems, so is the airbag warning sensor. interior starts making noise after awhile. The alarm sensor for the trunk might have problem. BMW issued notice for dealer to fix a lot of these problems. Early model dont have manual shift mode. The brakes are really good but dont last long. The engine only makes 190hp, it runs slower than my old C280.

Couldnt wait til it came in. Followed the production and shipping process online with the password that the Dealer gave me. Its all that I expected and more. A dream to drive and fast! Yes, fast but total control and very responsive. Never steered anything like this car *Active Steering* is amazing as is the blast of testosterone when I accelerate. Sport Package is a must have - dont even think about passing up that option. Not to mention the nickel plaited trim and the black trim around the windows (only with the sport package) in place of "Dads" chrome trim. Its not perfect but damn close! Indulge in the Ultimate Driving Machine!

Best car I have ever owned. I will now own nothing but BMW.

  • Fun to Own - Worth the Money - 1995 BMW 5-Series
    By -

The car is definitly worth the money, however, have it inspected first to ensure the prior owner took care of it. Yes parts can be expensive, but use the internet for all of the online distributers and your maintainence costs drop dramitically. The engine is incredibly strong throughout the RPM band with torque and horsepower consistently available (especially in sport mode).
