Overview & Reviews
It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.
Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

ONE BIG PROBLEM - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By COTTONGIRL - August 9 - 2:00 amLove the car...Most impressed with the active steering and adaptive headlights. Great handling and feel. The idrive is just like using a mouse and to me easier than finding the right button on the dash. MY ONLY COMPLAINT--DEALER SAYS BMW HAS NOT SOLVED SATELLITE RADIO ON THE 5- SERIES, ALTHOUGH MY CAR CAME PREWIRED FOR SIRRUS. WHATS THE DEAL WITH THAT?? ONE OF THE BEST ENGINEERED CARS IN THE WORLD AND THEY CANT FIGURE OUT SATELLITE RADIO??

No complaints - 2003 BMW 5-Series
By texbmw - August 3 - 2:00 amBy far the best driving car I have ever owned. I test drove both an E- 500 and the 540 and the two cant compare from a performance standpoint. The Merc is more luxurious but the BMW has the best driving experience hands down.

No Real Complaints - 2003 BMW 5-Series
By 4 Time Owner - July 31 - 2:00 amThis is the third 5 Series Ive owned, and they keep on getting better. The extra low end torque compared to the previous 528 version is noticable. It still handles like no other mid-size sedan, and Ive test driven all of them. If you enjoy precise road feel, steering, braking and cornering, this is the car to own.

Best car Ive ever owned - 1992 BMW 5-Series
By Alison Woods - July 22 - 2:00 amI bought this car as a dealer demo with about 3,000 miles on it. Ive had it for 11 years and it is still a great car. The only major repair Ive had to do on this car was to replace the onboard computer, but I replace my desktop computers about every 3 years! I also had to replace the fuel pump which seems to have been a problem with this particular model. The last major service cost $400.00. I may keep it another 5 years!

I LOVE this car! but... - 1998 BMW 5-Series
By c1 - July 18 - 2:00 amI bought this car used in great condition w/63,500 on OD. Looked like a new car in and out. Very good deal-got it for less than my previous VW GTI new. This car has a GREAT engine! Be prepared for high dealer repair cost... I put in three saturdays of work in the car and saved over $2000 in labor. I knew what to look out for- the stock shocks are almost always blown by 50,000, but I would have switched to Bilstiens anyways. Put in a new water pump and thermostat , changed all the fluids and spark plugs. Did a once over on the car-Not bad for a used car that should be bullet proof for a while now.

Love it!! - 1994 BMW 5-Series
By Looteye - July 17 - 2:00 amIve owned mine for 7 years, live in Germany where it can stretch it legs which it does VERY WELL. I have the 6- spd manual trans, love using all those gears and moving along at 130mph. Averages 24.5mpg. It has 340,000km (212,500 miles), not a problem with any serious mechanical part of the car, and Im surprised to read about engine/transmission changes from those who have had these problems. Mine runs as good as the day I bought it 7 years ago, and it still does 157mph. I cant imagine selling it for any reason, workabee buds are forever trying to get me to sell it to them. Not a chance....

Lookn Good - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By Robbiee69 - July 12 - 10:00 amAll I can say about my new Beemer is that, "I cant stop driving it." I love the looks the feel and the exhilaration of driving this machine. I would have liked to get the 530 for the extra pep, but opted for the options and really dont regret it. Not as much power but I can live with it. The ride is so smooth that, I often find myself at 80mph, thinking Im going around 65mph. Over all I like everything about the car.

My Bimmy !! - 1998 BMW 5-Series
By Sultanbond - July 11 - 2:00 amI bought my used 528I with 68616 miles and its just been a fun experience. I think the exterior design really attracted me to buying the car. The interior is in great shape with really good quality leather. Nevertheless, I think that for a luxury car of this price, the cupholders must go!! The stereo is just ok. Overall, this car is excellent!! It takes the same amount of money to buy a new domestic car or a used 3-5 year old BMW with low miles. My choice... Buy the Bimmer!!
