Overview & Reviews
The 5 Series has been completely redesigned for 2004. Along with a new V8 and the iDrive vehicle management system, buyers can expect even greater handling from this premier midsize sedan than before.
- Available V8 power, handles more like a sports car than a sedan, luxurious yet sporty cabin.

First 5er, wont be the last - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By Phase1 - May 1 - 1:29 pmVery satisfied with my first 5-series. The thrill of driving (like when I first got my license) is back. Was worried about reliability problems for BMWs in general and in this 1st year model redesign in particular. Concern proved unfounded as car has been rock solid no need to go back to the dealer. Sure the I-Drive freezes once in a while, but rebooting it is no problem. BTW - I-Drive isnt best thing, nor is it the root of all evil. It does take a little getting used to, but once done, its quite functional & does serve to: 1) get rid of many buttons/dials on the dash 2) allow more customization of car functions. Good thing there is a speed alarm b/c I drive much faster now.

04 530i - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By Jimb - April 2 - 2:00 amExcellent car to lok at and drive. The interior could us a little more luxury and the simplified i-drive works extremely well. The exterior is a welcome change to the boring look of the previous exterior and the drive is much improved.

Endless driving pleasure - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By jlbl - March 1 - 10:27 amI have owned my 2004 BMW 530d for one year now. I am fully satisfied with it. I like driving, and driving this car is an endless pleasure. I look forward to do it everyday. The engine is diesel (turbocharged, 3 l, 6L cyl, 218 hp/4000 rpm, max speed 152 mph/4000 rpm, max torque 369 lbft/ 2000 rpm). My mileage is 20.7 mpg on downtown streets, 34.5 mpg on a mixture of highways (90-95 mph on average) mountain road. No problems to date. i-Drive is very useful in order to set preferences and leave yourself to deal dayly with only a few choice of buttons in the dashboard or the steering wheel. Brakes are efficient to the most. Last, the car is solid like a rock when it comes to a bump.

Best car Ive ever owned - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By dtpi - November 28 - 12:18 pmI traded up from a Merz C-Class to the 525. Both cars are great cars but I needed a little more room. The 525 offers that and more.

4500 miles review - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By jamesc - November 26 - 3:39 amI chose European Delivery and picked up my 545i in Munich, Germany. This car is designed to be driven at 100 mph + on German autobahn. At over 100 mph on German autobahn, this car can cruise at ease for hours like its doing 60 mph. The 545 is deceivingly fast and extremely quiet. The fit and finish is excellent. With Sport Package option, the car feels like it can take corners better than a Porsche Boxster. I do not like the 18 Run Flat Tires due to the bouncy feeling. The state of art BMW Valvetronic V8 engine is amazingly smooth and responsive. The cabin is isolated from all outside noise. I prefer to hear the engine and exhaust a little bit more. Overall, a great car so far.
