Model Overview:

It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.

Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

I absolutely love the 540i 6speed. It has tremendous torque for when I want to go fast, but is elegant and civilized when I have the two infants in the back. I enjoy doing the work myself so labor cost is not an issue, but parts can be more expensive than some other makes. If youre an enthusiast like me, youll love this car.

this is simply the greatest car ever made by man. everything you could possibly need is in this car. It is stylish, luxurious, and sporty. it is a luxury sedan handling like a sport sedan. Lots of wood trim in this car. the iDrive system is awesome. If you dont already have one, buy one today.

  • Hit to the wallet - 1999 BMW 5-Series

I was in love with this car for almost two months. This 528i was a previous lease and then a BMW certified used car. I put 2500 miles on it and the transmission completely ate itself. Transmission (not dealer replaced) and two control units (dealer replaced) my wallet is now $5500 lighter. This after 78500 total miles on the car. I hope my letter to BMW falls on sympathetic ears.

  • Love isnt blind - 2001 BMW 5-Series

Love the car overall and cannot find anything comparable. Outstanding gas mileage & performance. Smooth quiet and responsive ride and handling. Accessories are light weight... cup holders replaced twice, dont work well anyway, sunroof replaced twice after falling from tilt mode. Bought it certified so have the extended warranty and bought extended maint... so far well worth it. The parking sensors are fantastic, all cars should have them.

  • Own it till it stops - 2000 BMW 5-Series

Have owned 5 series since 85 - 528e, 535is, M5, u name it. This car has been the best of the lot. Beautiful classic exterior and interior lines - 2.8L is BMWs most reliable in-line 6 with plenty o power (yes the M5 clearly is the pocket rocket, but 2.8 can get up and go and is easier on the gas guzzling.) The E39 is also the last 5 model without the ridiculous iDrive computer, which is completely unneccessary for driving, a safety hazard and blight on the dashboard. No major repair issues to date. When this stops running, Ill buy another used E39.

This car is great! A very comfortable ride. I have owned a 3 series, 740i, two X5s and now this. The comfort is great, performance is great and it has good gadgets. The iPod adapter and navigation system are fun and work very well.

  • Great car - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Great car so far. Excellent performance. Did not like sports package, ride too choppy. Ordered several options. Handles and rides very securely. Chose this car over Mercedes E500 after I test drove both.

I recently purchased the 530i. I spent a lot of time comparing the BWM to other cars in its class. Simply put, the BMW takes the driving experience to another level. I enjoy every minute I spend driving this car. I highly recommend that anyone looking for a first class ride seriously concider a BMW.
