This Year's Model Updates:

A six-speed SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) transmission is now optional on select 3 Series models, while a five-speed Steptronic automatic is now offered with the 330i Performance Package. Rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights and hands-free wireless cell phone capability are now standard features on the sedan and wagon. There are new alloy wheel designs for the 325i, 325xi and 330xi Sport Package. All 330i sedans get a revised grille -- a new black grille instead of silver, with a lower grille combination of body color and black. All 3 Series coupes and convertibles receive a revised front fascia, plus new front and rear bumper contours, Adaptive headlamps and taillights and new designs for both the standard and optional wheels. Interior changes are limited to a revised climate control panel. Finally, Sirius Satellite Radio is now available as an accessory on all 3 Series models.

Pros:
  • Available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners
Cons:
  • Pricey for its market segment, limited rear-seat space and cargo capacity.

Front paint chips easier than most cars. Dealer tacked on $1K as "Total vehicle protection" on the sticker which was a total scam. Very little thought put into cup holder placement. No leg room in rear seats even for kids. Get the 330xi(T) for the performance!

The current BMW 3 Series has the BEST looking INTERIOR of ANY of the current BMW series! Why? Because it has been "Banglelized" (or upgraded to a newer?! design- what an oxymoron!") yet!! All of the new upgraded interiors on the new 5 and 7 series look cheap with less leather and wood than the old designs they replace. Sure BMW claims they are trying to reach a new (larger) audience but their competitors use LOTS of wood and leather in their interior designs. Some may say that the wood and leather steering wheels found on lots of luxury cars are the "vinyl top" of the 21 century BUT that is what luxury customers WANT! Not a homogenized WORLD design!!

According to the automotive press, this car is the standard for performance sedans and I would have to agree. The car drives like its on rails and there is constant power throughout the pedel. The leatherette is good enough that I dont even tell people that its fake. I like the smooth shifts and feedback from the engine. This is a true drivers care.

  • Fun First Sport Coupe - 2004 BMW 3-Series

Bought this car about a year ago. It is the first and only BMW Ive ever owned. It is my favorite car of all that Ive owned. With the top down on a sunny day, zinging through the twists and turns of an undulating country road, this car is a ton of fun. My first thought on a beautiful day when I am free from obligations is "...Go for a drive..."! The 2.5 liter in-line six is smooth and responsive. With just 184 hp and similar number torque, it wont win a drag race with a Mustang, but it is surprisingly peppy. Id estimate 0-60 comes in around 7 seconds, which is comparable to my 2011 Fusion Sport AWD (which has 263 hp). But the miles per gallon is much better. Im seeing around 28-30 highway, and 21-23 city. This car also just looks great. It cannot be considered practical, seeing the owners manual strongly suggests using premium gas, and it only carries four people (and their handbags) with just a modicum of back-seat comfort. But who ever buys a convertible with practicality as their first consideration? This is one fun, reliable, and pretty car. I cant recommend it highly enough to the right buyer. This one has definitely made me a BMW fan!

  • Great Car - 2004 BMW 3-Series

I got this car for my birthday and I LOVE IT! However, as I expected, it has lots of little problems (speakers acting funny, rattling in the passenger chair, shocks make noises.. etc etc) but I am hoping the dealer will be able to fix that again. Its like a love/hate thing. I love the car, but it has its flaws.

  • Worst Buy of My Life- Never Again - 2004 BMW 3-Series

Since I purchased the car a little over a month ago I have had many problems with the car and have had it in for service for many re-occurring problems. The transmission went bad at 500 miles, the window regulator went out, and the car has poor handling and performance. This is the last time that I will buy a BMW or a german automobile ever again.

This car replaces our aging SUV and it was a welcome replacement. EVERYTHING on this car is first-rate and driving it is a joy. The color, fit and finish are superb. The interior is identical to our 328 until you get past the back seat and then you have even more room! The car handles very well with little roll and great cornering. Driving at speed on the freeway is especially enjoyable. This wagon is smart, practical, fun and very much a BMW. Everyone who has seen it up- close has commented on what a surprise it is -- this is one versatile and beautiful car!
