This Year's Model Updates:

The BMW 3 Series sedan and wagon have been completely redesigned for 2006. Major highlights include new features, more powerful engines, a slightly larger interior and the incorporation of BMW's latest exterior styling elements. The 3 Series coupe and convertible are unchanged this year but will eventually move over to the new platform being used for the sedan and wagon; expect to see a new hardtop convertible for the 2008 model year.

Pros:
  • Still the standard when it comes to perfectly sorted vehicle dynamics, high-quality interior materials, wide range of configurations to suit any style, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Still costs more than most of its competitors, lacking in interior storage space.

  • Initial impressions. - 2006 BMW 3-Series

These are just initial impressions after only 600 miles. I cant comment on reliability. I replaced a 03 330Ci for a 06 330i and I also drive a 04 Audi A4 1.8T. All of these cars with sport package. I am both a BMW and Audi fan btw. This 3er is by far the best handling car out of the three. I did not imagine that the new 3er would outperform my old Ci because that vehicle was already excellent. This car is ridiculous in cornering and has 30 horses more. I dont think I will ever be able to push it its limit. The car simply beats the the current A4 as well. In short if you are in for a car in this segment do yourself a favor and at least test drive one with a sport package.

After considering almost any sports sedan in the segment, I was blown away by the complete package that I found in the BMW 330i. After 5,000 miles so far, I have no complaints. Great handling, great power, luxury on the inside, taut lines on the outside. Even better was that you can get it with a true manual transmission. My first BMW and definitely many more to come in the future hopefully. I have Sparkling Graphite with the Gray Interior with the Aluminum trim, and I think its a great color combo. Also got the Sports Package and Cold Weather Package, and Leather interior. Wasnt interested in BMW Assist or the Navigation.

  • Great Car - 2006 BMW 3-Series

Traded in a C320, not even a comparison, great handling, better gas mileage, fun for short drives and comfortable on longer commutes over 40 miles a couple days a week, premium packege with bluetooth and leather is a must. The factory 10 speaker stereo is excellent, love the subs under the seats.

  • Surgical handling! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

As an owner of 10 BMWs over the years, including a new 2002 (in 75) and at least one of every 3 series, I was anxious to check out the 06. Thank German Engineers (or God) this story has a happy ending. The car I ordered/leased is a manual, sports, premium, cold pkgs, plus sat radio and elec shades. Compared with the 02 the steering is more precise, it feels almost surgical. Over irregularities the suspension absorbs and does not tend to push you off line as the predecessor did, fantastic! The engine, gearbox, & clutch work great. I had it over 150 coming home from dealer (I-5/night). The interior just plain works. The seats are substantially better. Ill take the long way home.

  • Small problems, but good car overall - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

Ive had my new car since May 2005, and each few weeks there are new small problems. The car came to me out of alignment, the stereo completely broke after 2 weeks, the Blue Tooth works part of the time, one cupholder broke, and there are about a dozen other small things that have broken over the 5 months that Ive owned this car. Its frustrating to have to keep taking my car back to the service department when its a new car and shouldnt have these problems. My advice? Wait until this new model gets all the kinks worked out before buying it! Great car, it just needs some reworking.

  • New 3 Series Good Looks Hard to Live With - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

The new 3 Series handles great, the engine and trans. are excellent. There are several design flaws. First it is hard to get into and out of because of the location of the B pillar and the lower seat height. Starting and turning off the car is a a three step process that just isnt natural. Visibility is poor when trying to look back. The cup holders in the front are located very poorly and will spill. The speed control is poorly located under the turn signal. The turn signal is a two stage process, it will have you trying to turn off and signalling the wrong way. Brakes grab. The sunvisor hits your head if turning it to the side. The radio is unreadable with sun glasses on. Traded it in.

  • BUY IT OR GET LEFT IN THE DUST!!! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

Incredible driving experience and good looks! i just bought a Graphite 325i w/sport and premium and the first day i drove over 100 miles including twisted roads in Malibu canyon and it was a blast...i couldnt stop driving! The graphite color and sport package are musts! It corners flat with the sport package and the wheels look better. Put it in sport mode and you can pass anyone... Will definitely stand out in a crowd! Girls will smile at you, even if they are with a guy! (happened twice the first night!) Maintenance is included so stop driving a honda and get one

  • Gotta luv the Bimmer - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

I traded my 2001 325i for this new and improved model. I am so impressed. I thought my first one was great, however everything i thought it should have had was put into this one. The Ipod jack, and running tires floored me. I will probably never own another brand. How can you go to a regular car after driving a Bimmer?

  • Best Performance Car Around - 2006 BMW 3-Series

The car performs like a dream. Highly recommended. All wheel drive is awesome in the rain. Larger interior space a big plus this year.

  • The ultimate standard! - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

Having had three BMW 5 Series, I had to experience the 2006 325I to understand how much of an improvement BMW made to the 3 Series to nearly challenge the 5! It has everything my 528i and 525is had, plus more HP and size. Only 7 inches shorter that the 5 Series and with an increased trunk space, the extra 20 horsepower makes all the difference. Plus, my 325i doesnt have the infamous I-drive!
