This Year's Model Updates:

The BMW 3 Series sedan and wagon have been completely redesigned for 2006. Major highlights include new features, more powerful engines, a slightly larger interior and the incorporation of BMW's latest exterior styling elements. The 3 Series coupe and convertible are unchanged this year but will eventually move over to the new platform being used for the sedan and wagon; expect to see a new hardtop convertible for the 2008 model year.

Pros:
  • Still the standard when it comes to perfectly sorted vehicle dynamics, high-quality interior materials, wide range of configurations to suit any style, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Still costs more than most of its competitors, lacking in interior storage space.

  • Very Solid Great Driving Car! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

Had it 3 1/2 years. 72k when i bought it, 107k now. One owner trade in at the same dealer it was bought new from. I had an issue with the steering column security lock(common) if your handy you can get in there and do some lubing n probably solve the problem. It happened within the first 30 days of ownership, so the dealer replaced it free of charge. gave me a 2013 328i loaner. I was a little disappointed in the new 328i at first, with the new body style, but it eventually grew on me. but my sports seats vs the standard seats, was a huge difference. Mine is also a 6sp manual, that with the sport seats really make a difference. The N52 engine also has a lifter issue(ticking in the top of the engine) doesnt really hurt anything n the only reason I had them replaced was b/c my extended warranty paid for it, otherwise I probably would have left it alone. the lifters will tick on the rare occasion , but a quick trip with the revs up a bit to pump up the lifters n its quiet as can be. Some people are just not really car people and sometimes are the blame for all the repair bills. I pretty much keep up the maintenance, mostly just keeping the fluids nice an clean. Mine still has the original spark plugs. I will change them soon n probably replace all the coil packs while Im there. People complaining about coil packs, you can buy a whole set for like 175$ n they are easy to install. Water pumps can be a little pricey, but if you buy the parts online(same as dealer) you can save hundreds of dollars. I still have the original water pump n Ive seen them go to well over 150k for some people. Its only a one time repair so its not that big of a deal. If you take care of the car n dont beat it up, it will give you many years of great service n be a pleasure to drive. Many of these on the road now with well over 200k. Just dont go to the dealer every time you hear a little squeak b/c they will find something wrong guaranteed! If you suspect something, google it or ask some honest mechanics, most of the time it will be something minor or nothing at all. Also has some great bun warmers!! n yes the window switch is a little too far forward for some, but not a real issue for me. Its nice just touching the door handle and it unlocks n no need to insert the key, as long as its in the car somewhere, it will start. (convenience access option). N most of the cooling system parts other than the water pump are actually very reasonably priced. Check around b4 you buy anything from the dealer. I got my battery from walmart (made by the same people n looked identical except for the color. $119 at walmart n $300+ at the dealer. but always check b/c the dealer will surprise u sometimes. Great drivers car( not a drag car), but has a nice smooth engine that seems to pull forever and its at home doing 100mph on the freeway on cruising a nice curvy back road. I luv it as much now as when i bought it. I can drive my dads honda accord(very good car), and when I get back in the 06 bmw 330i, I really appreciate the bmw. drive it responsibly and keep your fluids up and it will give you many years of service. Dont forget that automatic trans, find you someone that is competent and let them do a fluid n filter change, then maybe a drain n refill sometime soon after that and it will serve u well. Great Car!

  • Wow, a BMW! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I have always dreamed of owning one of these! I have the silver one, with black interior. I bought it less then a month ago and went back to have the permatex paint and interior done. It was around $750.00, but well worth it. It protects the paint and interior. The car sells itself. To make it a bit sportier I also had the windows tinted, Wow it looks great. This car is well worth what I paid! Go for the BMW!

  • Great Driving Car ; In the shop too much - 2006 BMW 3-Series

This was my new BMW purchased just a 8 months ago. I can not believe all the problems I have had. Just recently sold it for Acura TL. Yes it was still under warranty but do you like spending your weekends in the repair shop or taking days off from work? I really liked the car but I just dont have time for all the problems: dead battery, battery replaced, air bag repaired three times, three different trips to the dealer, power steering fluid container broken, replaced unit, paint came off bmw emblem (perfect - shows the quality of the car!!), sun roof sun shield came off tracks – had to be fixed at dealer, right side passenger window came off tracks – dealer fixed.

Bought a 2001 330i and modified the suspension slightly. This was the best handling car I ever owned. Traded that in to get the 2006 330i. Better looking, more sophisticated and refined, and just as fun. These cars are the most fun you can have in the under 50k price range. BMW is the only automaker that tests every single model at the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany. If it handles that track well, it will handle anything well.

  • Back To A BMW!! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

It has been almost 11 years since my last BMW and this one does not disappoint. It took only a short time on the test drive to know that my wait for a new 325 was at long last over. I now have a new 2006 325i in Monaco Blue with Beige Leather. The new 3.0l 6 is a vast improvement over the previous 185hp engine. More fun to drive than ever. I find myself looking for reasons to go to the store. The new body is awesome. The sport package is worth every penny. The sport seats take comfort over the stock seats to a new level. Fit and finish are good. Drive one then drive anythig else in its class and see why they call them The Ultimate Driving Machine!!

Whats not to like? The new BMW 3 Series is faster, smarter, sleeker, more solid, and more efficient.

  • The last of the true "ultimate driving machines" - 2006 BMW 3-Series

A solidly built car with excellent handling, thanks to steering that puts you in touch with the road, and a suspension that provides a nice compromise between comfort and cornering stability. An exceptionally smooth running engine provides good acceleration; controls that are intuitive and well laid out. A true drivers car for those willing to accept older BMWs need for relatively frequent and high cost maintenance.

  • Great car - a few niggling issues - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

I previously owned a 2002 325i - the new model is significantly upgraded and updated - more of a "Lexus-ized" version of the 3-series than ever before. Only concerns: Satellite radio cannot be added to the car radio by the dealer unless pre-wired by the factory (?) - cupholders are a bit flimsy; the headliner is decidedly cheap and rough; no spare tire - apparently BMW thinks the $350/per/tire run-flats are another great innovation - all I see is an unnecessary cost for me should a tire blow prior to wearing out thru normal wear and tear. Ah, yes - but I DO so love driving this car! Terrific driving dynamics, wonderful to throw into corners.....just wish they would allow the use of regular!

  • My first Bimmer 2006 - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

After owning 3 Toyotas, I decided to purchase a BMW and WOW, now I know what they mean by the ultimate driving machine. I drove it to see my parents for XMAS, which is a 3hr drive from where I live and oh, what a performance. I got 34 MPG at speeds of 70 & 75 (mostly speed limit) and the handling was superb. The enjoyment of sitting behind that inline six, knowing that the only reason that Acura can pass me is because I let it, is a wonderful experience.
