This Year's Model Updates:

A boost in engine displacement and technology, plus an available all-wheel-drive system keeps BMW's venerable 3 Series at the top of its game in the competitive entry-level luxury market. Larger wheels and brakes are part of the engine upgrade. Two-stage front airbags, reduced steering effort, a Cold Weather package and Dynamic Brake Control round out the major changes for 2001.

Pros:
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Pricey for their market segment, limited cargo capacity.

  • a winner - 2001 BMW 3-Series

I have never driven a tighter vehicle in all of my driving years (40 years+). I am impressed with everything about this vehicle...from the design to the power and added amenities. It is a fun drive. The only issue that I unwittingly experienced was the service engine soon light coming on unexepectedly once. For fear of causing damage, I immediately called the dealer. They suggested that I probably didnt put the gas cap back on correctly after a recent gas fill. They were right...a simple fix. I love the car and will buy again.

The 330ci is one of my favorite cars I have owned to date. Fun to drive, great looks, and no mechanical or cosmetic problems. I can see why this vehicle is one of the most wanted cars rated by consumers. Thanks BMW!!!

I got everything I want from a car in my BMW 330i: the look, the speed/power, agility, and the passenger space. However, this is not the most ergonomically designed car in the world, especially when used for telecommuting through LA highways. The narrowing cockpit shape can be quite unfriendly to the right knee after frequent braking and accelerating.

I have replaced all 4 tires at 21,500 miles. The air conditioning is now cutting out. No fun when it is 90+ outside and no air coming out. Was talked about a buy back then stonewalled. Once I start to feel good about the car again it decides to have a failure of some sort. "German Engineering" is not inspiring words. Looking to sell when 350z conv. comes out.

  • Responsive Handling on Autobahn - 2001 BMW 3-Series

I factory ordered my Bimmer last year and I must say that Ive not had any problems with it. It is the best handling vehicle Ive seen and experienced on the Autobahns in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, France, etc. Im very fortunate that I could drive this car to its limits (until the governor kicks in) and never have to worry about loosing control. I love BMW performance so much that Ill order a M3 next year.

  • Nice but .... - 2001 BMW 3-Series

This is a nice car, but lacks the fit and finish expected in a car of this price. There are numerous squeaks and rattles that are quite annoying. It is fun to drive, lacks power in the low revs, but around 3500RPM it picks up nicely. One major complaint is the Auto-Manual shifter. To upshift you push forward, and pull it back for downshifting. This seemed backwards to me. Only trouble I had is a peice of door trim came loose, and the shade for the moonroof came off its track once. Both issues were fixed by the dealer under warranty and without hassle. Overall, its a good car, but a little overpriced for the quality.

Awesome car. My wife and bought this car in May and love it. We fight over who gets to drive it. I also own a Corvette and can honestly say that the 2001 BMW 330i is more fun to drive!

  • never again - 2001 BMW 3-Series

In the 2 years Ive owned this car Ive had to replace 4 power window motors, 3 diff sensors and some temp gauge for the A/C... thank god its under warranty. But the warranty expires in Nov and Im selling and never buying another BMW. Way too high maintenace. The roadside assistance guy told me theyre great in the Alps... but thats about it.

So far I am loving it. 5 speed convert. Handles excellently!!!! Looks beyond great. Now the real test will be how well the service people treat me /car and how well the reliablity of the vehicle holds up. I will NOT be banging the car. More for show. BUT I WILL push it from time to time so it "stays in proper shape":) But I will post here so anyone looking can get an honest perspective.
