This Year's Model Updates:

For 2000 3 Series coupes, convertibles and wagons are all new; the hatchback has been discontinued. After last year's complete redesign, 2000 sedans see only minor improvements.

Pros:
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners.
Cons:
  • Pricey for their market segment, limited rear seat and cargo capacity.

  • Fantastic Car! - 2000 BMW 3-Series

Bought my 323 with 60k miles on the clock. The car has been fantastic. Yes its underpowered relative to the 330--but thats why it costs less! The car is still quick--esp. when it gets in the heart of the revs, and it handles like--well, like a BMW should. The ergonomics of this car (the E46) are a huge step forward from the E36.

Certainly a fun car to drive. Problem has been leaky door seal - 6 times to fix and still leaking; snap in steering wheel on abrupt braking; sunroof shade derailing; bad clutch; vibrating brakes...given these things it takes the polish off the driving luster. Does BMW really expect to compete with these type of problems?

I purchased my BMW convertible in July 2000. This car is quite the head turner, especially with the top down. I live in Buffalo, NY and drive it year round with the all season tires. The Dynamic Stability Control works great in the snow on this rear wheel drive car.

I recently purchased a used 323CI with the sport and premium packages and approximately 40k miles. It is a lot of fun to drive and is very comfortable and functional inside.

  • Buy the warranty - 2000 BMW 3-Series

I purchased my BMW 328 with 44,000 miles on it. It is beautiful and drives like a dream. The problem is that many little things keep breaking. I dont even drive it everyday. I have only put 5,000 miles on it in one year. It has been in the shop 3 X. Currently, the emergency light is not working. Thats bad. Great cars but make sure that you buy the warranty. Also, when you call to get it fixed the wait is 2 weeks. Good thing I have a backup car. My dependable Jeep Grand Cherokee! (for real) Husband drives a 1991 BMW and has had no trouble with it. Purchased it with 65,000 miles on it. Again, make sure you get the warranty!

  • Has BMW forgot about reliability? - 2000 BMW 3-Series

I bought this car thinking I wouldnt have to buy another car for years. I had nothing but problems from the day I bought this car. The car stopped running 3 times (twice on the highway). Each time I was told the problem was fixed - fuel sensor that registered 1/4 tank when empty. The list of problems is endless: faulty computer software, leaking water tank (never was fixed), faulty climate control, seat pads that were hot enough to leave burns, interior parts that came off. Sure this was all covered under the warranty, but what a hassle for a car that is not cheap. I sold the car a few weeks ago - good riddance..............

I love the car, not happy with the 181.00 per Control Arm, the ball joint housing does not stay still moves 1/2 inch causing clunking underneath, replaced with new control arms at 53k,expensive little job.but hey its a bmw right?
