Overview & Reviews
For 2000 3 Series coupes, convertibles and wagons are all new; the hatchback has been discontinued. After last year's complete redesign, 2000 sedans see only minor improvements.
- Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners.
- Pricey for their market segment, limited rear seat and cargo capacity.

Great drive but bad bad quality - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By Matthew Graham - December 5 - 3:42 pmI love driving this car and this is the second BMW that I have purchased new. The first was in the late 80s when I lived in Europe. I only kept that car for twelve months. It was an absolute mechanical nightmare. I said, I would never buy a BMW again but test driving it changed my mind within minutes, maybe before I put it in gear. They are by far the most comfortable and amazing car to drive but their reliability is just awful and they severely lack the quality and workmanship of their Japanese competitors. I now know I will never again purchase a BMW. It is definitely a younger persons car and as I dive into my middle age, I need and deserve something more reliable and less hassle.

Fun but flawed - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By parmijo - November 23 - 6:48 pmI bought this new and I only have 31K on the car now. I have the 5 speed and it is fun to drive, brakes well, handles excellent with the sport package. Gas Mileage is quite good at 25 city/hwy mix and 31 hwy. It still looks nice too. The problem is reliability. Some problems fixed under warranty but others I had to pay out of pocket. Also strange failure of the intake cam sensor which causes the car to stall at a stop. That was $300. Now the interior trim around the passenger door is falling downward. I guess I have to glue it back or something. None of the problems I had were atypical or surprising to the mechanics. If you buy one, expect extra maintenance cost as part of the deal

Back in a 3 series coupe - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By Marc - October 27 - 6:58 pmMy first BMW was a 325is. Now I am back in a 328ci and I love this car. I have all the bells and whistles except Nav. Bought it with 80k miles on it and it now has 98k. No problems as I am meticulous with maintaining the car. Great to drive hwy or in the twistys. Engine could use some more juice but the new cars have addressed this. BMW should drop HK as a vendor and call Bose. Love the car plan on keeping it another 100k miles. No problems and I do much of the work myself so I know when things are going wrong. Dealer is great while under warranty but find a quality local shop that you can depend on to keep cost down on maintenance.

Unreliable - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By UnhappyBMWowner - October 14 - 4:41 pmPurchased used with 33,000 miles. This is my second, and how disappointed I am. Way too many problems, with everything from the windows to the braking system, to the engine and etc. 14 trips to the dealer for repairs since 10/2003. I would never buy another, and am looking into an Audi or Mercedes. I do have to admit the the MPG is awesome, at times I have clocked 40+. BMW is not what it used to be!! BMW really needs to work on the reliability. This car is way too expensive to maintain!

Yes, friends, its a wagon ... - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By BMWGuy - October 13 - 2:00 amWe love BMWs, and bought this because my wife thought 3 series wagon was cute. That may be, but its also a rocket. Get the sport package, put on your driving gloves and hang on! Great on the highway, fun on the backroads! The usual solid BMW build quality, etc.

Fun sporty car - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By Elizabeth Morrow - September 7 - 1:32 pmThis car is a lot of fun to drive. It has great power and control, nice features as well. It is somewhat expensive to maintain, but thats true for most European cars.

Impressive Sports Sedan - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By The_Ave - August 31 - 2:00 amThis is my third 3 series, all I can say is they are all awesome! This car is has an unbelievable style along with power, handling and just plain fun to drive. The larger 17 inch rims and sports package definitely turns heads and is a must have for me. Cost for service is a bit high but rarely needed. I found a great independent authorized BMW certified mechanic that does all my work for less than half what the dealer charges. I love this car, buy one and I know you will enjoy for many years!

Not perfect, but so much fun - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By 340paul - August 25 - 10:00 amSo far, this car has been so much fun to drive. I dont know how BMW does it, but their smallish 6 cyl feels big. It rides and drives wonderfully. As for complaints, it seems as if we all have the same problems. Ive had the driver side window regulator replaced twice, and all other windows once. Sunroof shade clip broke just like the others too. Brakes put out tremendous amounts of dust, and wore out at 30000 miles, but they work! Stereo speakers definitely not up to the standards of this car. Overall, I love this car, but Im not looking forward to my warranty running out. My next one will have a 5-spd and sport package.

Great car but high maintenance - 2000 BMW 3-Series
By Kman - August 18 - 10:14 amI do like my BMW but after 5.5 years and 70K miles the car is not what it was 3 years ago. Everything is breaking down and am having the worse time with the car. After the first 3 years its been in the shop many times to fix all kinds of stuff. I agree that its fun to drive but with all the troubles I have been having its not worth buying the car. If you have lots of money to waist then go ahead and buy the car else do not purchase this car.
