This Year's Model Updates:

The A6 gets a new 220-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 to replace last year's 2.8-liter. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is available on front-wheel-drive models with this engine. Other mechanical changes this year include stronger brakes, an improved stability control system and BrakeAssist. OnStar telematics makes its way onto the options list, and you'll be pleased to find a standard six-disc changer in the dashboard. Styling in and around the car, such as the head and taillamps, is slightly modified and new interior and exterior colors expand your choices.

Pros:
  • Large selection of engines, well-appointed interior, all-wheel-drive stability.
Cons:
  • Non-linear steering, questionable exterior styling.

  • Good for the first 50k miles... - 2002 Audi A6

... but a serious headache since then. In for over $7,000 in repairs since turning 4/50k. Would have been more if the dealer hadnt taken pity on us. Literally in the shop to the tune of $1200+ every six months. And Im not talking maintenance. That is expected. Conversely, my 2001 BMW just had its first non routine service (less than $2k btw). With just over 91k miles and at 7 years, the time has come to replace this vehicle. My advice if you must drive an Audi is to get yourself a nice 36-48 month lease and then toss it back to the dealer before the problems surface.

  • Poor quality in a pretty package - 2002 Audi A6

Attractive design wrapped around a nightmare of ongoing expensive repair bills for items I have NEVER had break on any other car I have ever owned! Keeping up with regular maintenance does not help avert the $1500 to $2000 bi-monthly repair bills that begin when the car hits around 75K miles. This has convinced me to NEVER buy another Audi - good looks and style are not worth much when you frequently get stranded on the roadside with a dead car and have to face towing cost AND a couple of thousand dollars of repairs. Not worth the premium I paid for poorly engineered mechanics :-(

  • Nice Looking and Roomy, but Problematic! - 2002 Audi A6

Purchased the car brand new in 2002. Great looking car, and very roomy interior. However, car is extremely sluggish off the start. Acceleration can be jerky. Power windows have been a problem for me. My biggest pet peeve is the high maintenance/repair costs, as well as the frequency of repairs. I have similar issues as others, such as the instrument panel has pixel fade. Interior paint on climate control buttons have chipped.

  • Beauty of a Lemon - 2002 Audi A6

My Audi is a beauty inside and out, but too bad it stops there. It has been nothing but a problem and has broken down (literally) FOUR times. First time they said I had carbon build up in all cylinders. Cleaning them cost $900 because it wasnt covered by the warranty. They also flushed the fuel injection system for $300. Breakdown again. This time they said that it was an O-ring on the oxygen intake that wasnt correctly tightened. Breakdown again. This time they changed the catalytic converter. Breakdown again. Who knows what it is. Ive also had trouble with the warranty. My instrument panel has pixel fade, but they wont replace it until all the pixels are gone! Dont buy an Audi!!

  • This car is the worst Ive ever owned - 2002 Audi A6

The car is always in the shop. The "Check Engine" light goes off every 6 weeks. I would NEVER buy another Audi again. if you think of buying one, DON"T!!!! Get a Lexus instead!!!!

  • Buyer Beware - 2002 Audi A6

Problems from day one on this A6. Had to get the tranmission control reprogrammed because excelleration was non-existant in Drive mode (Sport & TipTronic was fine.) Two weeks w/o car. Have had brakes/rotors adjusted or replaced 4 times (only 17K on it to date) and it still sounds like a school bus when I come to a stop. Audi says that is normal - right! Now I need to get some red flashers and paint it yellow. Power Steering fluid leaked out almost totally, window motors had to be replaced, tires vibrated constantly on highway, and it goes on. If this was a 9K car, maybe I could understand it, but its a 42K car - No Excuse. I miss my ES-300.

  • Extremely Poor Quality and Service - 2002 Audi A6
    By -

My car has only 14,800 miles and has been in for repairs 4 times due to a variety of reasons- catl conv (twice), ignition coils, and stereo system going out completely. Unfortunately, the service departments and Audi policies are NOT what you would expect of a luxury car dealer. Our other family car is a Lexus (similar class, type) and we have received excellent service from the service dept, always gotten a Lexus loaner, and never been brought in for repairs. I bought an Audi expecting a high level of quality and service and unfortunately have not come close to my expectations.

  • Audi A6 a bad experience - 2002 Audi A6

I have owned the car for 42 days and it has been at the dealership with five problems for 21 days of the 42 days I have owned it. The malfunction light came on twice (catalytic conv. & purge valve), windshield fluid canister, unable to turn key even after forcing wheel, alarm goes off randomly, they have no idea why!!

  • Audi A^ - 2002 Audi A6

The Audi A6 did not meet my expectations. Instead, I prefer a Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The C-Class is far superior in design, performance and price.
