  • It has sucked my bank account dry... - 1999 Audi A6

I bought my car with 52K. Its been in the shop on the average of once/month since Ive had it for the past year. It costs a fortune to maintain. Ive had to replace the control panel computer, the brakes, the automatic window guide, the water pump, the speaker wiring for the phone, the passenger seat controls. I had to change a tire yesterday. The jack is worthless in the snow. Its cantilevered design would not work on a snowy, but hard surface. Im hoping to trade it in for a Subaru. I wish I had gotten one to begin with, but I was totally seduced by the comfort and quiet of the Audi.

Very poor build quality for a $35,000 car. Does not compare in quality to my Acura 3.2 TL-S and lacks standard features found on comparable cars. Audi repairs: replace gas gauge, replace digital dash, replace door hinge, rebuild drivers seat, replace rear seat back latches, front grill inserts fell out. Overall bad value for the money. Audi is not a quality builder of cars.

    Solid construction - no rattles.

Ive had this car for a month now and it still impresses me with the performance and touches that make driving it such a pleasure. The prior owner maintained it very well and it doesnt look or feel like a four year old machine. Im looking forward to a good dump of snow to really put it through its paces. It would have been perfect if it had a standard transmission, but on balance, the overall package more than makes up for it.

  • German for Quality - 1999 Audi A6

Have only had the Avant 2.8 for a month, bought used with 32k. Audi builds a quality product that is extremely solid and well designed. I have to agree with previous reviews that it feels slightly underpowered while in a partial throttle acceleration from a standing stop, but if you get on it, the 200 ponies are definitely there. When the engine is cold, the trans does not want to shift at the normal times, but the tiptronic cures that. The car is a joy to drive on the highway - smooth as silk and good handling. I also prefer the tiptronic shifting in the mountains. The car conrner like it on rails, doesnt feel at all like a wagon.

We chose the A6_Avant knowing about its relatively poor gas mileage and its under-powered engine. These were acceptable given the car’s smooth, quiet ride, AWD capability, and styling. We did not expect an unending series of repairs and recalls, though. We had problems with the fuel-sending unit, the instrument display cluster, the rear-window lockout control, the rear speakers, the radio/CD player (2X), the windshield washer sensor, an engine hose, and front window clips. Unfortunately, these problems seem common for Audi, and I would not recommend the A6_Avant.

  • I hate my AUDI - 1999 Audi A6

I loved it to START with...but now it just sucks! I have spend over $3000 in repairs in the last year and a half. It sucks.

  • Three Years in an A6Q - 1999 Audi A6

Its not perfect, but its the most satisfying car Ive ever owned. The superb build quality - particularly the peerless interior design and finish - make it a joy to always enter. Sure, I wish it were thriftier, but thats the joy of living in a congested city. On the highway it does just fine and really can fly too.
