This Year's Model Updates:

Stretch an A4 platform, add rounded styling with plenty of edges for character, toss in a sumptuously comfortable interior available in several "atmosphere" styles, blend it all with traditional Germanic handling and what do you get? The excellent new Audi A6 sedan. Our only quibble is with the taillights, which appear to have been inspired by the Chevrolet S-10 pickup. The wagon is carried over from 1997.

Pros:
  • Roomy inside. Impeccable road manners. Tastefully out fitted. Exceptionally comfortable. Optional all-wheel drive system.
Cons:

I bought this car about a year ago. Heard many electrical problems with the car, And it said it was very UN- Relaible.. NOT TRUE! Had a Minor window problem, Connection Got loose, My mech tells me this happens a lot with these cars. Only Problem, and the car is driven RUFF. Has 100k On it now, Drove 25k Miles - Very smooth Ride.

  • Audi engineering/ service poor at best - 1998 Audi A6

Audi and the 3 dealerships I have dealt with should be ashamed of themselves. This is not German engineering/service at its finest. I have had nothing but problems from day one, oil leaks, injector problems. After 3 visits to have the same oil leak fixed, the service mgr told me he thought I should consider buying a new car. It still leaks oil. There is a six week wait to get the car in for service because they dont have enough trained mechanics. Now, after spending $2K on a transmission module which was to fix my current problem they tell me I now need to replace the transmission.

  • Just an Overpriced Volkswagen - 1998 Audi A6

Loved this car when bought used in 2000. Unfortunately, vehicle appears to be jinxed. Has been in for repairs way too many times. Washer fluid tank leaked. Instrument panel has been replaced onced before and needs to be replaced again due to LED fading. Transmission blew out at about 70k miles. Now leaks oil. Good thing I purchased after-market extended warranty, which I wouldnt normally do (wife talked me in to it). Ill never purchase another Audi again and advised others not to either.

  • Great when running - 1998 Audi A6

The car is very fun to drive, however things keep breaking. The car has 32K on it and in the last 12 months I have spent over $4,000 on repairs. Some I did some repairs myself and others I took to an independent shop or the dealer. Since this review is limited to 700 characters I cant even begin to list the problems

  • Too bad they dont make an A8 wagon! - 1998 Audi A6

Weve had gasket and seal issues, but they seem to have been resolved. Electrical is not the greatest, and rear seat legroom is tight - especially for a bunch of tall people. Those things aside, this is the most balanced, smoothest, most well- engineered car weve owned. It is a joy to drive - even if it is a wagon - though a little more power would be nice. If only it were a little bigger...

  • Buy at own risk - 1998 Audi A6
    By -

Bought this car new, and it spent more time in service or waiting for service than it did on the road. Had ~30K in warentee work done over the 3 years I had it, finally traded in for a new Honda. It was bearly running when it was traded. Really expect more from Audi, never again. It even straded me 3 times.
