This Year's Model Updates:

Stretch an A4 platform, add rounded styling with plenty of edges for character, toss in a sumptuously comfortable interior available in several "atmosphere" styles, blend it all with traditional Germanic handling and what do you get? The excellent new Audi A6 sedan. Our only quibble is with the taillights, which appear to have been inspired by the Chevrolet S-10 pickup. The wagon is carried over from 1997.

Pros:
  • Roomy inside. Impeccable road manners. Tastefully out fitted. Exceptionally comfortable. Optional all-wheel drive system.

great car. elegant interior. very stable - 100 mph feels like 60. excellent audio system. quattro sucks up the road like a Hoover. most comfortable power seats ever. looks and drives like new after 80k miles. good hiway mileage. hardly a scratch on the bumper after 45 mph rear end collisionin LA ($5k damage onoffending 2002 Camry font end). Tasteful and understated. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Bought used with 35 K miles. Since I bought it two weeks ago, it has spent 1 and 1/2 weeks in shop with electrical problems. I love this car- when it works. I dont have the time or patience to continue taking it in for repairs. Im very disappointed. If I can unload it, it will be back to Japanese cars for me.

  • Love Hate Relationship - 1998 Audi A6

I fell in love with this car the second I drove it – yes even girls love cars! It handles very well in New England snow & after giving up my much loved rear-wheel drive BMW the Audi AWD was a God send! I did however fall victim to the nasty fuel tank problem & had the sensors replaced 3 times. Once the dealer even contaminated the gas with diesel! The dealer & Audi in general have been the hate part of my car relationship. Would I buy this car again? I would have to say No. The reason: The dealers, I know, I’ve been to most of them within 80 miles of Boston & have yet to find a competent one! Alas, BMW this is where you win.

  • My Audi A6 is a Perennial oil leaker - 1998 Audi A6

Its a fine car but overall mechanical quality suffers relative to its price range. I had to replace every single engine seal and gasket before 60,000 miles! Some of the gaskets I replaced just 16,000 miles ago are now failing again. My steering is now starting to go out. I have previously owned a Mitsubishi, Honda, Toyota and a Suburu. This car has required by far the most repair maintenance of all those models....combined.

I had constant problems with the control arms. I spent over $5000 in maintance in 2 years. Beautiful ride, spacious interior, & a nightmare to maintain.

  • Loyality will now be spelled A-U-D-I - 1998 Audi A6

My experience with the A6 has been outstanding. No problems except for the know design flaw of the front end being too low. Other than than - great luxury at a great price. The engineering is top of the line.

  • Beautiful but Poor Quality - 1998 Audi A6
    By -

Many issues with this car. Transmission problem ($6,000 repair!!) Low front end getting caught on parking barriers, Fuel injectors (Dealer said dont start the car, pull it out of garage and turn off - not good for the engine.) - Cost me almost 2000 to replace injectors and other assorted fuel and electronics to"fix" But it is beatiful to drive and look at 2.8 is adequate but not exciting. Audi should do something about the reliability.

  • Love the car - Hate the repairs - 1998 Audi A6

Great looking and riding car, but impossible to keep running. By 60,000 miles it had a new water pump ($800) and needed new valve gaskets, cam gasket, axle flange gaskets and a new rear differential. I thought I was going to miss the luxury when I traded it in, but it was a real relief to get rid of the expensive repairs. The Audi dealership had the attitude "if you dont have enough income to be giving lots of money to us - tough"
