Model Overview:

The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.

The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

  • Pleasantly Surprised - 2005 Audi A4
    By -

Im very pleased with the Audis mix of performance and luxury. Interior ergonomics and comfort are a step above the 3 series (which I test drove to compare). The BMWs 6 cylinder did not feel any more powerful that the Audis 4 cylinder turbo. Plenty of safety features and additional comfort features to choose from. No problems in the 21000 miles Ive driven.

  • Coolness for a wagon - 2006 Audi A4

Wife wanted to downsize from SUV to a wagon. After test driving Subaru and Saab, I convinced her to ignore the price of the Audi A4 Avant 2.0T and test drive it. She loved it. While not much of a wagon fan, I have found I really like driving this semi-sporty little car. I love the sport shift, cornering ability (with 17 inch wheels/tires), and excellent suspension. The little 4 cyl has decent accel power - more than I anticipated. This is our first Audi and we really like it. Interior represents genius design.

Repairs can be expensive but that comes with the Audi brand and technology. I love my Audi A 4 the driving experience is excellent! It is a reliable car as long as you keep up the maintenance .

  • Audi state-of-the-art technology - 1998 Audi A4

This is my first Audi, which has totally impressed me with its technology and quality. Especially, its state-of-the-art AWD System {i.e. Quattro}. The Car handels extremely well under all road conditions and is most definitely a solid car. The Tiptronic Transmission is another piece of technology that distinguishes the Car from other upscale sports sedans, with its ability to shift either manually or use the automatic feature. The Car is most definitely a quality automobile, but does have its share of electrical reliability problems that are typical in most cars that offer a wide variety of power options.

  • Quick, powerful and fun! - 2003 Audi A4
    By -

This car is a dream! Four years and it has never been in the shop for anything but a service. Its fast, its fun, it has a great gear box and great heated seats in the winter. The 4WD takes it over mounds of snow without a wimper. The only thing wrong with it is that it only gets 20 MPG in combined driving and takes premium gasoline.

  • Sticks to road, but roBs your wallet - 1999 Audi A4
    By -

I bought the car used with about 90K miles. Worked fine until 110K. I have since spent over $3000. Ive never spent so much on a car and I always buy cars around 100K. However, Ive stuck to Japanese cars before. Ive learned my lesson. Im looking to trade it in for a Subaru. What every one elses review says is true. Fun to drive, expensive to maintain.

  • New Audi A4 - 2007 Audi A4

Truly a thinking mans BMW. Sure it has FF format and it doesnt quite drive like FR BMW, but it has a confident handling and ride quality that many drivers wouldnt really mind at all. And how about the price point. It is several thousands dollars less than BMW, but I think it has much more tasteful interior that will age gracefully. Wonderful car to drive and look at.

  • Not too happy - 2002 Audi A4

This ia very nice looking car, and apparently well finished. But I have taken my car three times to the garage during the first year and it is still there. If you need a part for your car, beg for it. It will take more than what you expect. If you open the moon roof, then a few noises will compete with your fine stereo system. If you drive at low revolutions, then be willing to deal with some annoying vibrations. And not to mention the weird shifts in the transmission.

  • I just love my A4! - 2003 Audi A4

I have had my A4 six-speed for four weeks, and it has nearly 2700 miles on it. My only complaint is that I cant seem to stay out of the car!

  • Awesome car - 1996 Audi A4
    By -

If youre reading this you were in my shoes, I bought my Audi with 107k and it was awesome from day one, precision turning car felt secure to the road. All parts are expensive, I put 15000 miles on my car in the last year and I would recommend this car to everyone. But be sure to test everything before you decide to buy-> ALL ELECTRICAL, lights, wipers, windows, climate control and watch for the air bag lights. My only problem with the car was the brakes, Audi/VW has a problem with air in the ABS pump, if you get air in there you end up with locked up brakes only when you go into antilock. Something to test when you test drive the car. Quattro = never getting stuck.
