Model Overview:

The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.

The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

  • My beloved mechanical trainwreck - 2003 Audi A4

I love this car. I also hate this car. Bought it with 43,000 miles on it, and 5k later had to replace the clutch (of course not under warranty). Since then, traction control cpu has failed (dealership fails repeatedly to fix it), THREE ignition coils have failed (one on vacation)... the list goes on. I cringe when the car so much as shudders now- it feels as though the things just waiting for the worst possible moment to break. Styling is great, fuel economy is decent, interior comfort and design is stellar. Turbo lag is ridiculous- the power delay is embarrassingly pronounced. The mechanical issues are too much. This has soured my opinion of Audi- my next car will not be an Audi.

Purchased two days ago and drove over the weekend. Car is beautiful inside and out. Handles like a dream. Very comfortable. Virtually all functions are automated. Using the MMI takes some work, but once you get the hang of the info entry process, it works for most of the different functions. Several reviews stated that someone shorter than 54" might have some problems with the drivers seat position. My wife is 52" and had no problem getting into a comfortable driving position. Back seat has enough room and the trunk is large for this class of car. I would recommend test driving the 2.0T, as is performs quite well.

  • Used but perfect!! - 2005 Audi A4

After looking around for a new A4 Cab, I decided to save some bucks and get one with all the bells and whistles. No disappointments here... great car, perfect size, appointments and styling. Ive had many near and full luxury autos... this ones the best. All the performance but with an understated brand. Love this car!

  • Amazing car - 2007 Audi A4

I have now owned my 6th Audi (4th A4) and I will say for sure, Audi has come back to be the overall segment leader in the compact luxury car segment for the total package. I have already put over 5K miles on the car without a hitch, just got the first scheduled service for free. Even being front drive this car handles extremely well and the performance is much greater than expected for a 4 cylinder, thanks to direct injection. The "base" stereo system rocks as well as the Bose stereo from previous A4s. Heated seats arent really necessary in Arizona but have come in handy on a few cool nights. Overall fit and finish is unmatched by any other cars in class

  • A4 lemon? - 2008 Audi A4

Had the car for 5 weeks and loved every minute. Hit 2115 miles, oil pressure light came on and car died. Threw a cam, needs entire engine rebuilt, possibly major design flaw with 08s. 4 weeks for repairs so far, and I still dont have it back. Im trying to get Audi to get me into a brand new replacement vehicle, but they arent budging ( they just want to fix it). I didnt pay a premium for a rebuilt car. So much for Audi quality

  • This is a great car. - 2003 Audi A4

Buying the A4 is the best thing I have done in a long time. I almost bought another Saab 9-3, but the deal I got from the dealer made me go for the A4. I dont regret my decision one bit. The car is smooth in ride and performance. You can do almost anything in this car. Wow. Driving to work is actually fun.

I picked up a 2006 A4 2.0T with all the bells and whistles and I love it. It handles wonderfully, it wants to be driven fast and in tight spots. I have wanted an A4 since the 2005.5 was introduced. The style and comfort make me smile everytime! I finally enjoy driving everyday. I will never drive a two wheel drive vehicle again (I live in Michigan).

  • Beautiful Torture Chamber - 2003 Audi A4

This car is the most beautiful sedan out there, far surpassing a plain 3 series BMW. However, the ride is made uncomfortable by several things. I traded a 2000 A4 and the seat on my new Audi is 3 inches narrower and quite bit harder foam. The console is too wide and I hit my knee on it constantly. Many people comment on this bothersome flaw. The ride is extremely harsh and vibrating over small bumps and yet bouncy as a 1970 Buick over large dips. I do not have the sport suspension but I drove it and it could find bumps to crash over on the surface of glass. The speed to 60 mph is just as fast with the 1.8. Save your money and go for the turbo.

  • looks,quality,surefooted, but no go! - 2003 Audi A4

When we got the A4 avant for my wife a year ago,we knew the car was a beauty, and we suspected great built quality, and we got it. What we did not know is that the 1.8turbo matched to the 5 speed auto is almost slow, noisy at high rpms, and very thirsty for so few inches. Why offer this combo to such unsuspecting public?I know the torque is excellent and that there is almost no turbo lag,but pleeeeaaase, at 37 grands out the door,we deserve better performance!. Apart from that,it is very comfortable, handles beautifully, and a very pleasant place to spend time in ,unless you are going up a slope, fully loaded, with the dog in the back.

  • Best all around - 2009 Audi A4
    By -

The new A4 is an all around excellent auto. It surpasses all others in its class and then some. Wheelbase is similar to the MBenz E-class. Style is literally a jaw dropper. Acceleration 0-60 is better than my 225hp TT which was 6.3 sec. Im guessing the A4 3.2 quattro is similar to the A5 3.2 rating of 5.8sec 0-60, not the 6.3 posted on the Audi website. The exhaust sound is deep and throaty. Braking is quick with minimal nose dive. The best feature is the steering feel. Its very light and nimble. Interior and exterior finish quality is top notch. I test drove this car at Infineon raceway a few months ago and couldnt wait for its arrival. A well equipped A4 3.2 quattro for $40k, what a deal!
