The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.

The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

  Ive owned this car for nearly 2 years, and it has been a dream. The interior is plush and relaxing, but no adult human can fit in the back seats. Ample trunk space. The Bose sound system isnt too bad.

  ridiculously unreliable - 1996 Audi A4

  In its lifetime between 60-85000 miles its had several major problems including: 1) climate control display has broken 2) keyless door locking system broke 3) tie rod wear --needed replacing 4) one set of rear wheel bearings needed replacing 5) filter piece inside the coolant reservoir broke 6)oil leaks -needed oil pan gaskets replaced 7) car would die at low idle -an idle controller part needed replacement 8) dashboard trim around air bag separated from the airbag cover I will not buy another German car, especially not an Audi. Its been a waste of time and money to own this car. Im in the market for a small to medium sized Japanese SUV.

  This is my 2nd Audi A4 and its better than ever. They improved the torque ratio for better acceleration. The body style and increased interior room is great. Audi has the best 4-wheel drive system of any sedan. Great sound system and creature comforts. The 17" wheels/tires are a must.

  We had a 98 A4 prior to this one and I think I like that one better. This car is very stylish and has a classy interior. To me, it feels like a $50,000 car. Real solid. However, I cant stand the center console. Its positioned so that my leg room is restricted and makes driving almost a miserable experience. I thought I can get over it but so far with 1,100 miles, I hate it. Way to uncomfortable. Gas mileage is horrible. My other Audi was incredible with MPG but this one is worse than a SUV. Seriously. Its very disappointing. Im taking it to the dealer soon but Audi has never been famous for their customer service. LEASE these cars only and give them back before the warranty expires!

  Excellent Car - 1997 Audi A4

  This has been an excellent car for us. My wife loves to drive it and feels very, very safe in it. Very fun to drive in the snow too! We have had no major problems with it and have put 140,000 miles on it. The igntion switch went bad, but that was covered by Audi. We originally used Oasis as our Repair shop in Redding, CA, but now use University Audi in Seattle, WA. Both shops know the and fix the cars well.

  GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! - 1997 Audi A4

  Do not plan to own this car without a warranty! In the four years Ive had it, Ive had to replace: radio x3, ignition switch X2, starter X2, water pump, clutch master cylinder and numerous pieces of interior trim that cant seem to hold onto their paint. I cant buy another Audi, though I love the look and feel of this car. Save yourself before its too late.

  Automatic Transmission shifting erratic and could be dangerous as the vehicle dies when accelerating from 10 MPH to road speed. Dealer claims thats the way it is............. Snow falls into the trunk when the trunk is opened with snow on the back window and deck...

  Best car Ive ever owned - 2000 Audi A4

  Ive had this car for almost 2 years now and I still love it. When I was looking at cars, it was between this and the newly released BMW 323 wagon. Even though the Bimmer had a lower base MSRP, when you added all the features to get it close to the Audi, it ended up costing more. Plus, the Audi has AWD and a nicer interior. Audis have, hands down, the nicest interiors around. Unless you are into modifying cars, get the V6 with the leather interior.
