The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.

The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

  cant understand consumer guides rating of "unreliable". maybe this will come to pass after the warranty expires but at this moment it is a joy to ride. fit and finish is outstanding. The cvt trans.is a remarkable innovation. On extended trips i have averaged 35mpg. my only suggestion to Audi would be to develop a better way to adjust the passenger seat. for a beautiful car of this quality ,i cant understand why it isnt power. great car---good value.

  ...this car has it all. I recommend the 1.8T over the 2.8, b/c the turbo engine is fabulous and its also lighter (4 vs 6 cyl) which provides the car with an outstanding weight balance.

  Bought the car brand new in 1996 and after having a 1981 Rabbit, I thought that this car was absolutly exceptional! The engine was very good and pretty fast. The interior was very luxerious and the features and amentities were awsome. This car was ahuge leap in history for Audi. (from the old 80 and 90.)And I am glad that I bought it! Isold it in 2000 and bought an S4. The S4 is a rocket ship-I wrote a review for that too.

  Great car for active lifestyles! - 2001 Audi A4

  Ive had this car for close to 2 years now... and the only problem has been a pair of squeeky windshield wipers. The car handles wonderfully... my quattro wagon handles better than my buddys BMW 330ci. Its fun to drive and great for trips with friends and all our gear. The car gets lousy gas mileage... I get about 13 mpg in the city! Well, what can I expect? I live in San Francisco and I drive up many steep hills in a relatively heavy car with all wheel drive! However, I can drive from San Francisco down to LA on one tank of gas! Overall, a great car!

  Great car for the price - 1999 Audi A4

  There are a few minor things that could be done to make this car the best small sedan on the road. It is unbeatable for the price. I love the A4 and havent seen any car that is a better value. The cars interior looks and feels like cars of twice the price, it is excellent other than the rear seat room.

  Extremely capable car. Even with very little tread on summer tires I had very little trouble negotiating a 2 inch snow/ice drive to work recently. Excellent gas mileage for a performance car. Drive train makes even a fat footed driver seem like a pro.

  Stay away from this car! The control arms are a poor design and need to be replaced every 30,000 miles. $600 job!!! Audi has created a great recurring revenue stream for themselves. Buy a BMW, SAAB,Volvo, or even buy a Ford before you buy this poorly designed piece of JUNK!

  Why did I purchase this car? - 1997 Audi A4

  This is the most absolutely, dispisable vehicle I have owned in all my life! I have had to replace the heater core $1,400 job, tape player, the muffler,throttle body $600, ignition switch, power switch, brakes & rotors, $1,000, turbo $1,000, oil pump, something with the suspension & steering, and six lights. All of this, in the 2 1/2 years Ive had the car.

  Good surprise - 2000 Audi A4

  Had to get a station wagon because of dog. Was very pleasantly surt how much I liked the A4 Quattro 4WD. 4WD is seamless and much appreciated in CT winters. Interior is very high quality right down to cup holders. Have had it for 3 years and because of quality, it still looks like new.
