The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.
The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

My A4: I think Ill keep it... - 1998 Audi A4
By j.boy deluxe - June 17 - 10:00 amI factory-ordered my A4 Avant with the works -- Pelican Blue metallic over beige leather with sunroof, sport suspension, Bose sound and (most important) the five-speed manual. Although Ive put only 44,000 miles on it in four years, I still have to say that my A4s about as reliable as my old Acura Integra GS-R. Small problems arose at the very beginning (jammed CD changer and balky starter and cruise control switches) but since then its been smooth sailing. I foresee putting many more years and miles on this vehicle.

What German Engineering Means - 2002 Audi A4
By ChrisW - June 17 - 2:00 amWhat a well designed and thought out vehicle. A real pleasure to drive. Takes curves w/ ease. Fantastic gas mileage @70+ mph @ 35mpg. Roomy and seats 4 comfortably. Lots of amenities.

A4=Headaches - 1998 Audi A4
By cepe - June 16 - 2:00 amIve had this car for only a year and a half and have had numerous problems and annoyances: a continous squeeky driver seat, numerous "check engine" lights and to top it all off the engine seized. Luckily, the Audi Assured warranty covered the engine, but Audi refused to provide me a loaner car for the three weeks it sat at the dealership. To me, that is inexcusable.

Initial Assessment - 2002 Audi A4
By Aegil - June 16 - 2:00 amIve owned the car for less than a month, but right away some things are apparent. Biggest issue is lack of low- end power - get a manual and this thing will DIE starting on an uphill incline unless youre a master with the clutch. You cant go above 5mph in first gear ridiculous. Silver lining though - increased fuel efficiency, and once you have momentum the turbo can really kick in. Also, Audis start to fall apart after 30,000 miles... particularly with all the extra gadgetry that it comes equipped with. No surprises here - just buy the extended warranty.

love it and hate it - 2002 Audi A4
By dvic - June 16 - 2:00 amlove the car past 2nd gear and on twistys-hate the car at stop lights when tauruses and accords arent working nearly as hard to go just as fast or faster - audi shouldnt have allowed 1.8T to be purchased with sport package/wheels - this car looks fast but is not - remember guys, form follow function! plus my suspension started squeeking like an old stagecoach after 6 months - they still havent fixed it!! great looking and comfy overall - would buy another but either v6 or s4 - never again 1.8T!!

Only buy if a factory certified car... - 1999 Audi A4
By Glock88 - June 15 - 2:00 amBought used as a factory certified car, 2yr/100k warranty. Unfortunately had to use the warranty several times. New turbo, new sunroof, a new rear speaker, new seals on awd axles, new mass air flow sensor. otherwise, a great car. My first German car, always had Japanese, not used to the niggling problems. It is quiet, great on the highway, the quattro is great can even notice in the rain turning corners. Only gets 21mpg around town (premium gas only). Love the way the car looks, get a lot of complements. Fast car for only having 150hp.

Build Quality? Lack of Power? - 2004 Audi A4
By pgk22 - June 12 - 2:00 amWithin less than 1 yr of ownership been to the dealer 7 times now to fix the drivers power seat. Audi just doesnt seem to get the hydraulics of the power seat right? Parts again questionable? Owned a 3-series BMW for 7 yrs without any problems. Engine lacks low end torque. The other problems are interior room for the passengers in the back.
