Model Overview:

The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.

The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

The ride is solid, road feel is excellent and it looks great. I purchased it used with 37k miles at the end of the original 4 year warranty period. I purchased an extended warranty from a local Audi dealership which has paid for itself in service cost savings. The warranty covered the instrument cluster, an oil gasket leak, a cv boot and a power window switch. My dealer has given me excellent service and the car has held up well under daily commutes in the Arizona heat. The cost of wear and tear maintenance is high. Find a mechanic other than the dealer for the regular maintenance items.

I bought this car to move to Colorado and she is great! Even without Quattro she works great in the snow. Faster then the quattros i tried to. Lighter and more power at the wheels. Very Classy. The engineering is outstanding. The little things like auto down for all four windows. Easy open hood latch. All windows close with the turn of the key.

  • Sport Wagon ! - 2001 Audi A4

A wagon that has satified my desire for a sports car. With the sports suspension it handles our curvy/hilly country roads with a remarkably flat road hugging ride. Yet it is still a practicle car, 4 people ride comfortably (a fifty not so comfortable). Has flexible cargo capacity.

  • Great Car - 2002 Audi A4

This is a great car. Handles well, looks great and is comfortable. It seems to be loosening up the more miles that gets put on it, so I am not complaining too much about performance anymore. The interior materials are, as always, excellent and the build quality is excellent. As I write this, there is about 3200 miles on the car and I have not had any problems. The sport wheels that come with the Avant are awesome looking!

  • Stay Away! - 1998 Audi A4

Bought this car in 98, thought I was buying the ultimate car. All the seals leaked, problems with exhaust. Tie rods went, radiator developed a leak, as well as water pump. Wheel bearings went in two wheels, all with less than 50 K miles in 5 years! Noise in rear of car that two car dealers could not find, then told that rear suspension needed replacing. Traded in for a Honda, very happy now, but experience with Audi, who did not compensate me for my expenses and agony, was miserable. Audi is a four letter word to me now. Dont buy an Audi.

  • Germans Rule the Road esp. Audi - 2002 Audi A4

I have owned many cars in my 39 years of life: 3 American, 6 Japanese, and 5 German. I can say w/o a doubt that the German made cars are the best. Ive owned 3 BMWs, 1 Mercedes and my new 03 Audi A4. I can honestly say that no one builds a car like the Germans. Of the lot Mercedes ranks 3rd, BMW 2nd and Audi is #1 as being the Best Car I have Ever Owned. The Mercedes was a good car to drive but it was always in the shop for something. BMW ranks a close 2nd to the Audi, but it cant compare to the fine int. and attention to detail that Audi pays to its cars. In my book Audi is the Gold Standard that all other Car companies should be measured.

  • Very please with my 2006 A4 2.0T - 2006 Audi A4
    By -

Overall, Im really ecstatic about my car. Just over 7000 miles so far with not a single issue. The interior is fantastic, it drives and handles really well (recently took it on a trip up the PCH to Monterey -- what a fun drive!), I really have no complaints, except for the Sat Nav and MMI system which can be a bit clunky sometimes.

  • 97 A4 2.8L Quattro-Automatic - 1997 Audi A4

Great car, very solid, even after 75K mi, going over RR crossings/potholes, barely hear anything. Fun car to drive, especially on wet with the Quattro. Beautiful exterior-IMHO, one of the best looking models Audi ever came out with. Repairs Req: Below average, minimum repairs needed as long as you provide enough TLC & good preventive maintenance. TIP: For parts use VW Passat, most parts exchangeable & cheaper. "Bad" Points: Extremely expensive maintenance & repairs, hard to find parts & shops to work on it other than Audi dealers. If you take good care of it though it will return the favor. Would definetly recommend as a good buy.

  • Performance at an affordable price - 1999 Audi A4
    By -

Made a good decision to purchase this used 2.8Q instead of the 1.8Q. The performance is smoother and more powerful. It is a fun car to drive with it makes my heart flutter. My wife and I drove to niagara falls from Mass. this past february and came back during a blizzard. I saw 18 vehicles that slid off the highway or were flipped over (5 cars). This car provided me with a lot of road gripping reassurance. I was sold on the quattro system. Ive had it for 6 months and the fuel guage just failed. I think it will cost about $500 to fix. Ive been very happy with this vehicle.
