Model Overview:

The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.

The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

Has been a great car. Second owner - came off a lease. Had it chipped - not really worth the $500. Had to have the mass air sensor replaced at 30,000 miles - know issue with VW and Audi.

  • My A4Q experience - 1998 Audi A4

Overall it has been a very pleasant experience, except for dealing with the dealerships. Very difficult to tell if you will receive good or poor experience and it varies between dealerships as well. The car itself has been fine in the snow, and the gas mileage isnt bad for a 4wd car. Great looks and comfortable interior. Wish it had more power though...

This is a GREAT car. This car handles like it is on rails if you have the sport suspension. Ride is a bit hard if you have the sports package. The engine is very powerful for its size, and it gets great fuel economy.

  • Wouldnt buy an Audi again - 2001 Audi A4
    By -

While the 2001 Audi A4 can be fun to drive, its had FAR too many mechanical problems for such a new car (45,000 miles). Windshield fluid pump, brakes (had to change the entire brake set, couldnt do just the pads!), airbag, now something with a faulty oil system (its been there the last 3 days), and other strange things. Also do not like its low clearance, it just invites ripping off the front bumper guard on a parking space divider. Would never buy Audi again after this one. I cant wait to sell the car and go back to Toyota.

  • Outstanding Car! - 2001 Audi A4

I own three Audis: a 2001 A4 2.8Q, a 2000 A6 2.8Q Avant, and a 1997 Cabriolet. All three are wonderful cars, and serve different purposes. The 2001 A4 is great fun to drive, and at 30k miles, Ive not had one mechanical problem. Also, the 2.8 engine does not have the coil issues present in some 1.8T engines. The design of the 01 is a classic: clean lines in the Bauhaus tradition. Note: At 75K miles, Audis can have gasket leaks (my 2000 A6 Avant did), but thats not uncommon for any German performance car. Fit and finish are flawless, and my dealer (Nalley Audi / Atlanta) is first rate. I will own nothing but Audis!

  • Dissapointing A-4 - 2002 Audi A4

Bought car new, traded a 99 2.8Q, had it for a week and had to return for a clutch"adjustment",they actually replaced the clutch. First snow storm my windshield wipers failed completely @ 2000 miles. The driver side seat squeaks like crazy, the trunk never closes correctely, and now @ 11000 miles the sunroof sticks when it closes, very fun when it rains. Oh for potential and current owners avoid the front end bra. I had mine dealer installed, it flops like crazy over 80 miles an hour, it will destroy your paint job, dealer says its just the way it is. It looks cool though it doesnt work, kind of like the car it was designed for.

  • Outstanding car, 20K miles - 2015 Audi A4
    By -

After more than 2 years and 20K miles, I can say this car has been great. Excellent acceleration and handling. The sports mode allows for more lively driving. The quattro system is great on curves. No problems with anything and have gone in only for routine maintenance. A few years ago A4s had some problems with oil consumption, but I have not had that problem with this 2015 model and its possible Audi solved whatever problem was ailing earlier models. Bluetooth works well. My only critique is that the technology is not as good as some other cars (e.g. no backup camera), but I care more about speed and handling than technology. Mileage is really good on the highway.

  • Audi A4 is THE Car!!! - 2000 Audi A4

I love my Audi A4. I bought it because it is very fun to drive is solidly built. There are many performance upgrades available. Such as, 500 for a chip that adds 45hp and 85pound/ft torque. It has sound accelaration, cornering, braking ability. A manual tranny is the way to go. Its been very reliable and I have 73k so far. I use synthetic oil to keep the turbo happy and it keeps me happy when I ask for power.

  • Youve heard it before - 1998 Audi A4

Bought this car used a couple of years back. It was a great car, without any problems for about 8 months. Since then, it pretty much lines up with the things said in other reviews. Be prepared to pay to keep it moving! It is going back into the shop today (just got it back 2 weeks ago) and will probably be sold after that.

  • Audi walks away from a LEMON - 2003 Audi A4
    By -

Ive owned it for 14 months and its been out of my posession for 47 days for mechanical rasons. 38 days for ignition coil(s) problems, 4 days to replace a faulty catalytic convertor and most recently, 5 days to replace a failed fan regulator module. Audi customer service takes a week to call me back to tell me theyve decided to continue to service the car under the terms of warranty. I gotta a lemon folks and Audi doesnt want to make it right. Now its my lawyers turn.
