Model Overview:

The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.

The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

  • Awesome Wagon! - 2006 Audi A4

I love this car! We were ready to downsize from an SUV, but still wanted an expanded cargo area. This fits our needs perfectly. We looked at the Subarus, but they didnt compare to the Audi. The 6 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and is fun to drive.

  • Its the whole package--sort of. - 2000 Audi A4

No other car combines great AWD, excellent gas mileage, fair price, and good looks (Subaru gets 3 of 4!). Great winter car. Reliablity is good-- its never broken down, although it has had more than a few OOW repairs. Should a cam seal leak at 70k miles? Only real minus is very small back seat--if youre over 55" forget it.

This is an excellent vehicle for the price. I went from a SUV to the Avant and dont regret it one bit. Especially when I fill tank. Just buy some racks and put all the toys on top. The trunk is also just a littl to small to fit golf clubs in the back. So I just fold down one of seats. Although I am a bit concern now since after 18000 miles a oil leak on the cam seal was discovered. I just hope this is not an on-going issue. Other than that a very reliable car.

  • Competition Yellow Audi - 2001 Audi A4

I have the most beautiful Audi ever made. The A4 has beautiful outer styling that molds to its shell like skin. I have the screaming yellow color that catches attention everywhere I go. I was so impressed with my Audi A6 2.7T Quattro that the dealer got me into another Audi which is the A4 2.8 Quattro. I have never stopped smiling.

  • Beware of the Audi Certified Used Car - 1999 Audi A4
    By -

I purchsed the Audi Avant as a replacement for my VW New Beetle. At the time, I felt comfortable purchasing a pre-owned car because the dealership had reconditioned it, and it was covered under the Audi Assured Warranty. After about 6 months, the Certification was worth the paper it was written on. The car has had numberous problems, not to mention it was sold to me with body damage. Audi needs to do better, I wouldnt recommend the Audi Assured program to anyone.

  • Great fun w/some drawbacks - 1998 Audi A4

I love driving this car - whether its just to the store or on a 300 mile vacation. This is my first AWD and I now swear by it for the best traction and overall feeling of safety. However the problems with the engine and catalytic convertor, combined with the cost of maintenance, sour the experience. After three years of ownership, Ive replaced the cat three times. The engine work is another nightmare altogether - suffice to say it cost me nearly $5k. I still love the car in spite of all that.

  • Best car I ever owned - 2007 Audi A4

Does everything well. I enjoy driving this car. Gets great gas mileage, no turbo lag, amazing handling.

  • A4 is a total Lemon - Wish we didnt by the Audi - 2010 Audi A4

This car has been a total lemon. It is constantly in the shop with one expensive repair after another. The Audi dealership in Raleigh also makes it even worse. Lexus provides a much better experience when we bring in our cars there.

  • Will not give up my 2.8 - 1999 Audi A4

I dod a tone of research prior to buying an A4. After comparing to five other possibilities I took the plunge and have been the happiest driver since. Found a 2.8 Sport PKG with 5-spd manual with 60K. I have since added a tune kit(air induction, exhaust, brakes, and ECU) from Evolution Motor Sports in Tempe AZ and have had even more fun!! Although it is a little more money for the car in terms of initial cost and maintaining, it will cost the same as buying a cheaper auto that you have to fix coonstantly like the GMC Jimmy I had previously. Living in Colorado every aspect of the A4 is used and enjoyed. Cant wait to get a new one in about 200K miles!!
