Model Overview:

The Audi A4 holds the distinction of having single-handedly revived the Audi brand. Launched in the mid-'90s, the compact A4 quickly became a favorite among luxury car buyers thanks to its beautifully finished cabin, sharp handling and available Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the A4 has offered these core characteristics from day one, it has become increasingly polished and high-tech with each successive generation. No matter which year you're looking at, the A4 promises both engaging performance and suave style inside and out.

The sedan body style has been a constant for the Audi A4, but depending on the vintage, you may also find wagon and convertible variants. Turbocharged four-cylinder power is typically found under the hood, yielding both reasonably spirited acceleration and satisfactory fuel economy. In road tests, we've consistently praised the A4's refined character, with more recent plaudits going to its spacious backseat, which has adequate room for full-size adults.

  • I LOVE MY A4 - 1998 Audi A4

I would have to say that these A4s have a lot of power. Mine is very quick and compfortable. The tiptronic is very fun. The brakes arent quite as good as BMW but they are alright. OVERALL i would give my A4 a rating of 9. I will keep this car for many wounderful years.

  • Great car overall - 1997 Audi A4

This is my 1st Audi and definately not the last. Its awesome on the interstate as well as on short in-town trips. In the snow, I think it handles better than the AMTRAK. Seriously, on snow/ice/wet pavement, the car grips like nothing else, even on regular summer tires. Kind of costly when repairs are needed but its expected on all higher end brands, MB is not cheaper. Just remember this is not a Pontiac or Ford where anyone can work on it. V6 engine could use a little more horses but its just enough and very quiet. I travel a lot and I am always on a rental car. I cannot wait til I get back to my Audi, everytime. It never fails.

  • Dump this car before warranty ends - 1999 Audi A4

Good car for highway driving, way too slow off the line for a drivers car, lots of engine leaks and burned out headlights, poor tires for winter driving as they were incompatible with ABS. Ran ok for about 65,000 miles except for power and gas consumption issues. I thought I could keep it maintained and have a good car but repairs were averaging $600/month for last 10 months. Mainly electronics problems - Dealer did poor job of diagnosing problems - his solution was to keep adding new parts until warning lights went out. Dealer told me that I would soon need new boots for steering and transmission components and new brakes. - Ouch!! Car is sold!! No more Audis ever.

  • The Whole Package - 2003 Audi A4

This car has everything that you could want in a car except for maybe a little more horsepower and if you dont mind spending a couple hundred more bucks you can buy a chip that increases the turbo output. Handling is excellent. The interior is immaculate. I get stares all the time.

  • Excellent Audi - 2005 Audi A4

This is a truly splendid car to drive. The turbo-lag takes a while to get used to, but it has ample power and torque. The build quality, interior design and instrumentation are superb. The road-holding is very good: a firm, sure-footed ride. The backup (I have had one minor problem) has been exemplary. I strongly recommend the Audi. It might not have the glitz appeal of the BMW, but it make up for it with its solidness. Remember to compare this particular model with the BMW 320i or with the Mercedes C200 - not with the BMW 230i or Mercedes C240.

  • Buy this car. - 2002 Audi A4

I had to make a new car purchase quickly after my car got totaled. I was looking at Infinitis and Acuras, when I cam across the A4 by accident. In short, its a great car that is fun to drive, looks great, and does everything it needs to (transport people, stuff, whatever). The turbo hurts fuel efficiency, but not terribly. Otherwise, I dont think I could have found a better car for my needs and wants.

  • Beware of the 1.8T hoax - 2003 Audi A4
    By -

Buyer beware. The people giving this car a good review are only doing so to keep the resale value of their cars high! The 1.8Turbo and the Tiptronic auto-trans DO NOT match. The turbo lag is pronounced, alarming, and outright dangerous! You step down on the pedal, and the car pauses for 2 full seconds. I just dumped my 2003 Audi after 4600 miles, at a huge loss, just to get away from this dangerous turbo hoax.

  • Pleasant Surprise - 2003 Audi A4
    By -

Solid Teutonic Ride, takes corners like a fly to fly paper for a "family sedan". So many thoughtful and convenient engineering touches no one else would think of. Transmission is extremely smooth and seamless, I was amazed! Tiptronic although not sporty enough for me (subjective though) is the best I have ever tested. No real reason to complain about this vehicle. The overall style never ceases to grow on me.

  • Great Car - 2005 Audi A4
    By -

This car has given me no trouble and it is a piece of jewelry to look at. I love the way it sounds and it handles great. The only downside to this car is that too many people notice me which isnt a downside at all. Now as far as power, Audi really did not give enough oomph for a V6 and I am disappointed. However I do love the car despite its slow tendencies.

  • Surpassed Expectation - 2003 Audi A4
    By -

Looking to move into a lightly used German sports sedan, one drive and the decision was over. Much tighter steering and responsiveness than the others I looked at. Even though it only has a 4 cyl, the turbo more than makes up the difference, but no nagging lag problems. Build quality was unreal and the car is easy to add-on aftermarket engine and body mods. Im sold and this wont be my last Audi.
