  • MPG could be improved - 2005 Acura TL

I got the car used, at 27,500 mi. Not bad for a 2005 car. Handling is very sporty, suspension is more sporty than luxurious. MPG is pretty bad - mix driving only gets me between high teens and 21mpg.

  • US built, what you pay is what you get - 2005 Acura TL

I love the fact that the TL comes with a lot of toys that you would have to pay extra if it were Lexus, Audi or BMW. The Nav system is very easy to use except you have to pay almost $200 if you want to get a updated DVD. The 5.1 sound systems is terrific except the interior integrity of the vehicle is not built to handle such great sound, after months of driving, rattle, rattle, rattle can drive you nuts! I had a 02 TL-S and they share the same problem, my friend has an 02 Japan- built GS300 and that car is still as quiet as if it were brand new. US quality is taking a dump, I aint buying another US built Acura no more.

  • Mercedes to Acura - 2005 Acura TL

Although pretty, the Navigation stinks!! Has a very wide turning radius. Seats took a little getting used to, initially felt uncomfortable and hard. Handles pretty well and sturdy for a 6 cylinder. Pick up is slow, dont expect a sports vehicle or ride. I love the aesthetic appeal both inside & outside!! Its a cute car that reminds of a BMW 3-series. Overall, I recommend for the money even over the Mercedes.

  • Whatever happened to decent cars - 2005 Acura TL
    By -

I bought my Acura TL in September of 08, and after hearing all the positive things about them, I thought to myself that sounds like a great car to get. Dont get me wrong its not a piece of junk but since day one I have had more problems then my old car in the four years Ive had it. I recently thought of selling it or trading it for another car because the car is in the shop so often. You know all those annoying sounds you really dont like well thats my car for the most part. I bring it in the shop for a few problems and then more develop. This will be the last Acura I will buy in my life and Im only 21 thats pretty sad. Now Im losing money just to get another car not to hear the noises.

  • Would Buy Again - 2005 Acura TL

Bought new in March 2005. Very good looking car in and out (better in my opinion than the new model). Very reliable, only repair was A/C at 25k miles. Love the big touchscreen nav system that you can operate while moving, new models may have better graphics but non-touchscreen is MUCH less convenient. Performance is decent, needs more low end power and the transmission is slow to shift. Handling is good, but nose scrapes too much on driveway inclines, which reduces confidence in maneuvering and turning radius is about 4 feet too wide.

  • Great Luxury/Upscale sports sedan - 2005 Acura TL
    By -

A very impressive car for the money. I looked at the Audi A4 and BMW 3s and the TL won me over with its gorgeous interior, its power and of course its price. I reckon a BMW as loaded as the TL would cost about 8-10K more. The TL is also very roomy inside (unlike the other two). The sound system is fantastic and everything about this car feels solid. No problem so far but I have only had the car for a month. I recently got 32 mpg on the highway at 65 mph average. In fully automatic mode, acceleration often does not meet expectations but switch to the semi-manual mode and it is like driving a different car, with the 270hp right there for you to enjoy!

  • I cant wait to get a new car - 2005 Acura TL
    By -

I bought an Acura TL in Jan of 04. I thought the car was great when I first got it. Now after owning it for about a year I have noticed some issues with the car one is torque stear. and one big thing for me is the backend has a tendancy to be soft around corners its so lite back there that it kind of flops around in quick turns. One other complaint I have is a constant vibration under the driver floorboard. Good things about the car are sound system is great and its ergonomically pleasing. Over all this car would be good in the south and california but if you live in the north like me find something with a little more ground clearance. Oh one last complant the front end scrapes everything.

  • The nav system is tied into the radio/CD - 2005 Acura TL
    By -

I love the car but it is now 2009 and the nav system no longer works. H2O damage most likely due to condensation sense it is in the trunk. Now that the nav no longer works my entire console is worthless. No DVD/CD, radio works but dont know the station. Only solution from Acura is to purchase a new 3k nav system. I would not buy this or any vehicle that ties all these system together like this because there is no aftermarket solution and you are stuck with a 3k bill just to listen to a DVD!! I am not happy. I filed a complaint with Acura but they do not have a solution. This is a severe design flaw!

  • Acura TL -The Best Value On The Road - 2005 Acura TL
    By -

Terrific performance for the money - this is the best value car on the road today. Navigation system knocks spots off the one in our 2001 BMW 540i and the Acura is 100% more reliable than its garage mate. Acura could improve the turn radius and make the steering wheel telescope but otherwise theyve thought of everything. The Bridgestone performance tires were a big disappointment and wore out after 12,000 miles - with no hot-rodding to hasten their demise. We replaced them with Pirellis and are much happier. This is my 3rd Acura (1995 Legend, 2000 TL) and I love the brand. The availability of a manual transmission in the 2004 TL was a key selling point for this family.

  • Perfect Acura mixture - 2005 Acura TL
    By -

Have basic model in automatic. Driven for 4 yrs now. Excellent car - good performance and build quality. Highs - quality feel, good acceleration (in manual mode in auto), good mpg on highway (about 30), sticks to road akin to European car. Lows - initial tires were Michelins and awful - rapid wear and no grip in rain or snow (bloody dangerous after 20k on slick/poor quality roads in frosty Winnipeg), mpg in city not great (about 15-18).
