The Acura RSX is a two-door sport hatchback. Replacing the Integra coupe, the RSX served as Acura's entry-level car from 2002 until 2006, when the brand decided to move itself more upscale and the car no longer fit into the company's scheme. Nevertheless, as a used car, both versions of the RSX should appeal to consumers desiring a reasonably affordable car that offers sporty coupe-like styling and accessible performance. Like most Acura vehicles, the RSX boasts a high level of refinement as well as a reputation for above-average reliability, competitive pricing and strong resale value.

In road tests, our editors found the RSX's main performance strengths to be nimble handling and responsive steering. The Type-S was particularly rewarding to drive. Throughout its production run, the Acura RSX was one of our favorite sport hatchbacks, but toward the end, several new and redesigned competitors of both versions usurped our favor.

Nearly every feature on the Acura RSX was standard, which makes finding a preferably equipped vehicle easy. Throughout its lifespan, there were two trim levels available: base and Type-S. The base model should work well for consumers interested in having a fun-to-drive car that's comfortable for daily commuting. The RSX Type-S has mechanical upgrades that increase the car's performance potential.

The base RSX came standard with the majority of convenience features expected for this class of car. Highlights included automatic climate control, power windows and mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, a CD player and a moonroof. A smooth-revving four-cylinder was standard, and it came mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. The base RSX initially produced 160 horsepower, but new SAE horsepower ratings in 2006 changed the number to 155. Leather seating was the only option.

The RSX Type-S added an in-dash six-CD changer, standard leather seating, 17-inch wheels, a more firmly tuned suspension and more powerful brakes. The Type-S also had a four-cylinder engine tuned to produce extra horsepower (200 hp, later increased to 201). A six-speed manual was the only choice for a transmission.

Because of its four-cylinder engine and front-wheel-drive layout, the Acura RSX boasts better fuel economy than many other sport hatchbacks and coupes. Front-seat occupants will be comfortable, but adults sitting in back will find headroom lacking. The rear seat is split 60/40 and can be lowered to increase cargo capacity. So configured, the RSX boasts nearly 18 cubic feet of luggage space.

Consumers interested in a used or pre-owned RSX should not have a problem finding one that matches their desires. Only minor changes were made after the car's debut. The most significant of these occurred on the 2005 RSX model, when Acura revised the suspension and steering for better feel and response, updated the exterior styling and slightly increased the Type-S's horsepower output to 201.

The RSX replaced the Acura Integra. Shoppers interested in a used Acura sport hatchback previous to '02 will want to research this model.

  Dependable Fun Car - 2003 Acura RSX

  Owned this vehicle for six months. Great car overall. Good acceleration. Good gas mileage usually get above 30 miles per gallon depending on how I drive. Only problem with it the car so far was the fan belt had to be re placed at 44,000 miles. This cars seats could be more comfortable, on long rides seats can be uncomfortable. Overall this car this car was a great decision suggested to anyone who wants a fun fast car that is good on gas.

  the car is ok, but its awsome now that i have molded on a body kit,cold air intake system, radio upgrade,18" wheels & tires,projection headlights,, and much much more to come.

  This Rsx is the nicest acura sports car i have divin and since i got my license i have always had at least one acura. Acura really out did itself with this one.

  An Acura, but not a luxury car. - 2006 Acura RSX

  Just bought an 06 RSX on a lease return. Great condition and lots of fun to drive on my 8-mile commute on a bendy highway, but it lacks some pretty basic features like a remote hatch release. Ive owned Hondas exclusively since I turned 16 and each one, even my old 83 Accord SE, had a lever to pop the trunk from the drivers seat. The plastic sun visors feel cheap, and theres not as much storage for odds and ends as Id like. Overall, I prefer the interior of my previous 98 Accord EX coupe for features but the leather seats offer great support and comfort in the turns. Engine and performance in the RSX blow the Accord away. Better mileage and acceleration? Well worth the price.

  Great Car - 2003 Acura RSX

  After owning this car for about 5 years, I can safely say it was a great choice. First, the fuel efficiency is amazing. I drive the manual, and I regularly average 30-34 miles per gallon. This is mixed highway and city driving. The interior is ergonomic and spacious (for the driver, at least), the handling is crisp and responsive, the gearbox is amazing (dont whine about the grinding, it goes away after a few thousand miles), the engine is revvy and powerful for its size and fuel efficiency, and the car is built to very tight tolerances. After 5 years, none of the electricals have gone out, nor have any rattles developed. Taut car.

  My choice was between the Jetta 1.8T and the RSX Type-S. The Jetta offered more low-end torque, but the RSX blinded me with smooth handling and beautiful interior. Just like a Lamborgini, the tach and speedometer dials point down. At night, the mesmorizing red glow of the dials appears completely uniform across the dash. Not all looks, you feel every bit of the 200hp with the I-VTEC engine.

  Well rounded - 2002 Acura RSX

  I bought the base RSX manual last month and have been very satsified with the car. The RSX is a well rounded machine. It has good acceleratoin, agile handling and smooth feel from the engine. The RSX may not stand out with it appearnce but it has a sharp look to it. The inside combines a sporty look with a refined feel. The only negatives are the few blind spots and the back seat has limited head room.

  Niggling problems spoil a great car - 2002 Acura RSX

  Fun car to drive, but have had a lot of little problems. Had to have power door lock motor replaced (very expensive - out of warranty) and now the hatch will not open - no way to manually override the lock, even from the inside. Side mirrors need to be heated on a car with such poor rear visibility. Ride is rough and noisy. On the other hand, driving is fun, with perky acceleration and good handling.

  I love this car. It was my first car to buy on my own. Ive had it for 7 months now and I can honestly say everytime I get in it I look forward to the experience. The car is pretty fast when you want it to be. Inside is superurb. All the guages are beautiful and the console is angled towards the driver. NICE! The engine sound is a spine tingler :o) I put heated seats in mine for Christmas now there is absolutely nothing I can say I would want the car to have that it doesnt.
