This Year's Model Updates:

A number of interior, exterior and mechanical updates were made for 2004. The V6 engine added slightly more power and is now rated at 265 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. Outside, you'll find a restyled front fascia, new chrome trim, dual exhaust tips, a new wheel design for Touring models, updated headlights and taillights and a rear wing spoiler. The interior now features trendy brushed metal-look trim for the center stack, leather armrests, auto-on/off headlights, new ambient foot lighting and enhanced functionality of the second-row seat for third-row access. Touring models get a new version of the Bose premium audio system and power lumbar support for the driver seat. Finally, safety has been improved on all MDXs with the addition of side curtain airbags and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

Pros:
  • Room for seven passengers or serious amounts of cargo, gutsy V6 engine, well-balanced suspension, top-rated crash test scores, low price.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road capability, below-average tow rating, ho-hum interior design and materials.

  • Pretty nice Id say - 2004 Acura MDX

My mom just bought this car for herself a little while ago and it came with the GPS system which is the best feature out of all in my opinion, especially for the out of town trips. It drives pretty decent but will not make you bounce back in your seat. The drivers seat however needs to get fixed because the back of the seat isnt straight, its at an angle which causes my back to slide down toward the right side all the time and I cant position myself straight. Also the right exhaust pipe is hanging a little lower than the left one but that shouldnt be a problem. Other than that the car is pretty nice. Not a standout but not a car that people will hate either.

  • POOR GAS MILEAGE!!!!!! - 2004 Acura MDX
    By -

Gas mileage stinks. I am consistently getting only 13 miles to the gallon around town and 20 on a trip.. This is not what the window sticker says. Taking in for service but have been told probably nothing they can do. Was told at first well maybe it will get better as it gets broken in...What is wrong with this???? It is not like I have a lead foot or drive wrecklessly!!! I go so slow now to help the mileage that my kids comment on how slow I drive. I use the most expensive gas in this car and nothing is making a difference

Have had a noise in rear wheel bearings or Whatever? since new nothing has happened just noisy. Dealer is great changed wheel bearing no charge twice. Once in peoria and last time in naperville. Its ok for a while then the noise is back. I probably will change to another SUV because of this noise. The Acura is excellant with this exception. don

  • Roaring noise from exhaust at 2k rpms - 2004 Acura MDX
    By -

My 2004 MDX makes a low-pitched annoying roaring noise at about 2000 rpms from the exhaust. I took my car to the dealer, and this is what the mechanic wrote: "I test drove the car and could hear the roaring noise at 2Krpm. I swapped exhaust from a new MDX and it still made the same noise. I swapped the air box assembly and it still made the same noise. I test drove another 04 MDX and it makes the same noise" The service manager told me that this is "a characteristic of the vehicle," that nothing can be done about it at this time, and only if Acura gets enough complaints, it may look at the problem, and find a fix.

  • 2004 acura mdx - 2004 Acura MDX

The MDX is exactly what it purports to be, an extremely reliable, attractive, solid SUV with a well laid out, good looking interior and exterior, good handling, a wonderful driving feel, a first rate navigation system and mediocre gas mileage (but its an SUV so what did you expect!) Id buy another, although Im particularly interested in the new, smaller Acura SUV promised for later this year - so long as its not too small. Typical Honda quality.

  • I FEEL LIKE IM DRIVING A BUS - 2004 Acura MDX
    By -

I should have done more homework before buying this vehicle. It is very reliable, because it is built by Honda, otherwise it is horrible. The seats are hard and get VERY uncomfortable on trips. It is very big, not smooth, and needs a better turing radius. It also gets horrible gas mileage, about 16 mpg. I have driven my sisters RX330 and found it is very comforatable and feels like you are driving on a cloud.Plus it has a great turning radius, and the service is great! It also gets 25mpg. Dont buy the MDX, it you want performance and dependable luxury, go to Lexus. I cant wait for my lease to end, to purchase the RX330

  • MDX=fun, reliable, practical - 2004 Acura MDX

I researched for two years before purchasing this vehicle. I have an ACURA Legend that has remained reliable with over 180k on it. That helped convince me to stick with ACURA in the SUV department. The MDX feels sturdy, and drive very nicely. You have a commanding feel behind the wheel, and good visibility. The navigation system is awesome. It is more than just an expensive toy. It will give you the confidence to venture into unknown territory without trepidation. I once drove an hour down back roads that didnt show on most maps, and I didnt have a clue as to where I was, or how to get out. Then I used the nav, and it guided me precisely and ACURA-tely back to main roads, and home.

I looked at MB, BMW, Toyota Sequioa, and bought this because of ease of driving. Luxorious interior. Smooth, quiet ride. Great seating avail. in 3rd row. Big back seat! Great maintenance plan! I love the wood grain dash. I didnt get NAV system, and I wish I would have. Love the DVD/TV though.
