This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

Leased my GC in April 07. This is my 3rd Jeep, loved my first two, and hey, this new GC looked sweet. Yeah, well that lasted about a year. The seats are stained because my water bottle leaked on them. The tranny shimmies instead of downshifting. I have a burn on my forehead because the check engine light has been on so many times. Sometimes it wont shift, or gets stuck in overdrive when at a stop. Have taken it in for service 3 times now, and they always tell me nothing is wrong and they reset the computer, then 2 miles down the road the light comes back on. I was told it needs a new tranny computer and they dont order them unless it is a real problem....hmmm....Im buying a Toyota

Trail Rated 4.7 V8 w/trailer tow package best bet. In 45 years of driving (almost all 4x4/awd) my JGC Laredo is one of the best highway cruisers Ive ever owned. I live in Winnipeg, MB, Canada and Ive never understood why everyone doesnt own a 4x4/awd vehicle. It pulls my boat (1500 lbs) and I dont even know its attached. My son from Calgary is buying the Jeep from me because after looking for a newer vehicle, both in Calgary and Winnipeg, my Jeep came up "best" as a vehicle for the next 2-3 years as the auto industry goes thru some major changes. Now I have to do the looking for a replacement and the Jeep GC is the only NA vehicle Id consider. Ext. warranty hasnt been needed yet.

  • Best Jeep Yet - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is a much better Jeep than in previous years. Engine is powerful and responsive, and the ride is quiet and smooth. Handling is true and the car doesnt wander over the road as my 2004 Laredo did. So far, it has been a quality ride.

  • Best SUV for the money - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I went back and forth, and finally decided on the Jeep. No problems so far, except I think the transmission needs a little work ... seems to jump around 40mph and 60mph. Other than that the only problem I had was a rattling sound that I think is coming from the emergency brake hitting the console. Overall I really love my Jeep and everyone that has seen it has like it as well. Good SUV for the city!

  • You get what you pay for. - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am amazed at reading comments that say there are blind spots, or cheap plastic trim, or low windshields or uncomfortable seats etc etc. Youd think none of these owners, ever test drove their vehicles before buying them. If youre fat or short or tall, a Jeep is never the right purchase - simply not enough adjustibility. Its made for the average buyer at an average price and has average reliability, fuel economy and comfort. Some seem to think that buying a US car means something more than mediocrity. It doesnt. So either buy a decent car at a decent price, or wake up about what a Jeep is all about.

  • Ill Buy Another - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was hesitant to buy a 2-wheel drive Jeep, and I didnt know that such a thing existed until I moved to Florida. I hear that the 06 and 07 models have limited slip differentials, which makes me anxious to buy an 07. Ive had a near perfect experience except for that queasy feeling when it rains and your right rear wheel slips and spins. Theyve fixed that now, I think.

Reliable 2nd or 3rd vehicle, perfect for hauling, hunting, fishing or just running errands

  • Junk!!!!!!!! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Worst car Ive ever owned! Dies at low speeds, rough idle, dealer cant seem to fix the problem. No codes in the computer? This seems to be problem with the 4.7 V8, read the other reviews or any Jeep forum. Now the check engine light is on and its transmission related. I had a 96 G.C. never a problem, now I own the Anti-Chrysler. Such a shame, its beautiful Car.

  • Excellent vehicle after more than 3 year - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I traded a 2002 Overland for this 2005 Limited; my wife traded her 2001 Laredo for a 2005 GC Limited as well. Got a great deal and been happy with both of them (hers was a demo and is more fully loaded than mine). Granted, there have been a few minor glitches, but the dealer has been fantastic in getting things fixed correctly the first time. Mostly small stuff (ignition switch, steering angle sensor, various TSBs) and never anything that would leave us stranded.

  • I love my "Creep" - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have owned my Creep for 3 yrs. and I have not had any problems. I get avg. 19ish mpg driving 45(avg.)mph. Headroom in drivers seat could be higher for dh as he is 62". I have no problems at 55".My only big problem is water stains the cloth seats and when I try to clean with water it makes it worse. Back seat is not comfortable-quite hard in fact. My only complaints.
