2 Years W/ My XC90 2.5T AWD - 2005 Volvo XC90
By Frank - March 27 - 4:23 pmI am just completing my 2nd year of ownership with my XC90. As others have mentioned it has spent some time in the shop and seems to be recalled every 6 months or so. The XC90 is a very safe SUV and has a vault like feel to it very similar to Mercedes Benz. My biggest issues are all the little things that go wrong with it. I am now replacing the chrome window trim on the drivers side for the 3rd time. The design of this is so poor, its held to the window frame only with double stick tape. There is also a removable armrest/storage compartment that is starting to fall apart and Volvo is refusing to replace or repair it. A great service department is key to owning this vehicle.

The SUV I Love to Hate - 2005 Volvo XC90
By JLS - March 23 - 8:16 pmIve owned my XC90 just over a year. Been in the shop over 6 times for warranty items ranging from the air intake on the engine to the air vents breaking. Most frustrating is that the same parts keep breaking. The air intake has been repaired 3 times and the vents 2. Ive also been frustrated with trim parts falling off and the third row seat breaking. Ive owned Volvos for years and have had little to know problems other than routine maintenance. This Volvo is the vehicle I love to hate. Love the ride and creature features, hate the reliability and build quality.

I love this car! - 2005 Volvo XC90
By carly - March 20 - 12:16 pmThis is the best car Ive ever driven. Its perfect for my growing family and its really fun to drive. All the features are so easy to use. I had a Land Rover before this and its like night and day. The Volvos a much better vehicle, for a lot less.

Well Built For Life - 2005 Volvo XC90
By Mitch - February 8 - 9:56 amI purchased this vehicle for my wife and have been very happy with it. The vehicle has great fit and finish and, other than the tailgate update, we have had no problems. As my wife is not familiar driving vehicles with a high CG, safety was a primary concern.

Early Rating - 2005 Volvo XC90
By Donald W. Davis - January 20 - 10:00 amThere is a wind noice, that I cant locate. It appears to be aerodynamical. Caused by the design. I only notice it at 60mph.

V8 Engine Is Prone to Catastrophic Failure - 2005 Volvo XC90
By jdcarcollector - December 29 - 9:53 amLast week, our 2005 Volvo XC90 V8 died in an intersection. The dealer explained the engine had a catastrophic failure and was "dead". I was told the battery was dead and there is no compression -- air blew through the engine. I asked how this could possibly have happened to a car that has undergone every Volvo dealer service, including one just 45 days ago. The dealer was courteous but explained the car required a new engine which costs $15,000. Google "Volvo Yamaha V8 Failure" and youll come across numerous people discussing catastrophic failures thanks to the timing chain breaking. Volvo has not undertaken a recall.
