  • Comfortable car, but its a money trap! - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

We purchased the 2005 Volvo xc90 in 2011 when it was 6 years old for $9000 which is great compared to the original ticket price of $47,000 when it was new. We bought it knowing the the 3rd row seat would not fold down. Other than that it looked great. We averaged about 16-17 mpg combined. The car itself is very comfortable but after a year of owning it, the electrical system began to fail. The dashboard would turn off while driving, the radio broke, and the windows wouldnt stay up. When we took it into the volvo dealership, they kept it for almost two weeks and finally (rudely) told us they could not figure out what the problem was. They also told us the 3rd row seat may cost up to $1000 to repair. A year later, we had problems with the almost brand new brakes. We had to have them replaced as well as all four of the $200 tires because of uneven wear. Recently, after a routine visit to the mechanic, we found out the the power steering needed to be replaced as well as the heavily fogged over headlight lamps which would cost us $2000. That was the breaking point for us and we decided to trade it in. On the way to the dealership the brakes gave out. They hesitated to give us $1000 trade in. This vehicle has been a money trap. Although the car is a comfortable ride and has an attractive interior, it is not worth the investment. Stay away. There is a reason these xc90s dont hold their value.

  • Love this vehicle - 2005 Volvo XC90

After shopping and researching for a month we settled on the xc90 (rx330 was second choice). We love the vehicle. The luxurious interior and the stylish exterior. Gas MPG has been spot on with estimates (18/23). We do 80% city and 20% hwy thus far and have been averaging 20.2 mpg (self calculations). Am anxious to go on a substantial hwy drive as mpg will definitely be in the 23 range which is not bad considering the weight of the vehicle. If you are concerned about the power of the base engine dont be (unless you buy an SUV to go from 0-60 in under 8 seconds). The power has been more than adequate.

  • T6 Has It All-Performance+Comfort for 7 - 2005 Volvo XC90

We wanted a car that could accomodate up to 7 people (4-5 kids in back), that had plenty of room in the rear (with seats down) for transporting stuff but that was not too big overall. It handles beautifully under all conditions and has been very reliable to date.

  • great SUV - 2005 Volvo XC90

We had Honda Pilot for 2.5 years -no comparison to XC90. Volvo rides more like a luxury sedan, not your typical SUV. Great stability at speeds up to 100mph -did not try faster because of fear to get a speeding ticket. Body roll is very minimal, suspension is great so far. One problem -stuck front seat cap holder cover - was fixed by the dealer ( they already have a service notice).

  • I love it - 2005 Volvo XC90

the only complaint I have about my xc90 is the key! It continually comes off my key chain and the mfgr fix didnt fix it! Otherwise Im a convert. I owned five bmws before the xc90 and theres just no comparison when you match price drivability and quality. the gas milage is excellent too. I have a 2004 now but im ready to trade for the 8 cylinder version. I have 51,000 miles on mine so you know I live in my car.

  • Volvo XC-90 SUV Review - 2005 Volvo XC90

The XC90 is the 6th leased Volvo in our family. We lease them because of the confidence we have in the safety engineered into the vehicle. I never anticipated just how safe the XC90 is, until I was offered and participated in the Volvo XC90 off road "Owner Experience" driving test. This car performed far better then my expectations. The Dynamic Stability and Traction Control along with the Roll Stability Control performed flawlessly, and gave me complete confidence that this vehicle is capable of responding well under a wide variety of hazardous road conditions. I spend much of my time in the XC90, and this is probably the most comfortable, enjoyable and safest car I have ever driven.

  • On the 4th transmission! Terrible car - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

I bought the car certified pre-owned, THANK GOD. Im on the 4th transmission - Im an easy, family driver, this car is terrible from a mechanical standpoint. Ive had the front axle replaced, seats breaking after small kids sit on them, emergency brake problems, fuel door breaking, etc., etc. I like the car, but the mechanical problems are simply unacceptable for a car in this price range.......and clearly Volvo/the dealership doesnt care about transmission issues since they are replacing it for the 4th time ON THEIR NICKEL - they said each was a new trans...yeah... Gas mileage is bad, also. All considered, I regret buying this car. My advise is to stay clear, if not, please buy mine!

  • check engine 2 times in 5 months - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

Returned to dealer for check engine 2 times and 3 times because the windshield washer fluid does not work when temperature is below freezing. Still not fixed. I wonder if anybody else had the same problem. They changed a valve, but did not correct the problem. Scared to drive when it snows - defeats the reason for purchasing a SUV.I am taking it in again.May be I should get a new car. Otherwise drives well. 3rd row seating is too crammed.

  • Never wanted a Volvo til now! - 2005 Volvo XC90

I always thought Volvos were pretty ugly, and most of them were, but when I saw this, I did the research, and finally bought, and love it!!!! Had a couple problems which dealer fixed quickly (CD player, keys, a few minor recalls), but other than that, this is a great, great vehicle!
