  • Volvo Owner No More! - 2003 Volvo XC90

When I first got the vehicle I loved it, but after having it for 2 + years, its not reliable..something is always wrong with it..had so much trouble with the Axles where it would shake rigourously 60-70 mph..the A/C stops blowing out consistently after 20 min..and when its on its too darn cold! The temp. gauge doesnt work so its either freezing or hot.

  • Awesome design; time will tell - 2003 Volvo XC90

This is a well designed vehicle. It has seating for seven(in a pinch; small third row seat), acceptable performance for an SUV and near car like handling. A very nice package. One small problem is my inability to find a snow tire/wheel package for the vehicle. Tirerack.com does not yet have a package listed on its web site.

After months of waiting with a deposit on a car I had never seen my XC90 finally arrived. The 2.5T AWD drives great. It has a high fun factor for an SUV of this size. Very verstile, very nice. The car gets a lot of attention on the road.

  • Price Gouging - 2003 Volvo XC90

Ordered new XC-90 in January. Received notice that now getting 04 model and will be subject to $600 price increase. Volvo knows they have a hot car for once and sticking it to consumer. Dealer unwilling to negotiate any reduction of increase. Volvo jamming all customers with this increase. Also, watch for expensive scheduled service.

  • Less than thrilled- Consider the T5 - 2003 Volvo XC90

I am not delighted with this car. There is a noticeable squealing whenever I back off the accelerator. The problem (thought to be turbocharger back-pressure) is currently "under investigation" by Volvo. The windshield washers are loose and turn on their own. Not the kind of build quality you would expect on a $40K+ car. Fuel economy on the T6 is awful. In summary, there are no major problems but this is not what I expected for $43K. Do not overlook the T5 version as it is nearly as fast as the T6 with smoother performance due to the 5 speed transmission. It also has much better fuel economy. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought the T5.

So far no bugs or defects. Excellent ride/handling. Very nice seats. 3rd row works and folds very conveniently. Flip down 2nd row headrests are nice for visibility. Interior very "clean" without dumb doodads. Nav system also works well and above-dash design makes it safer to consult while driving. Backup sensors also work, and are good for someone (like me) that has only driven sedans before this.

  • Performed moderately well - 2003 Volvo XC90

Aside from looking great on the road, the XC90 has a few weak spots. There is a blind spot on both the driver and passenger sides which block peripheral vision in a very disruptive and dangerous way. A surprise for Volvo who appears concerned with safety. No other severe blind spots, but extreme caution must be taken to overcome this. After the first service at 7500, we completed MANY warranty repair issues. Yikes. Some minor, but one major issue with brakes. Days after this service, the check engine light appeared. The service dept at our local dealer was so slow, Ive yet to service. Good luck!

Nice car thus far reliable. Gas mileage on the lower end of its suugested performance

  • Very happy @ 200,000 - 2003 Volvo XC90

Ive read the recent reviews and it appears most folks are pretty miffed with their XC-90s. I couldnt be happier with mine. A couple car pool trips shy of 200,000 miles (I bought it new) and no major issues - never a tranny, motor, A/C or electrical problem. I get about 45,000 miles on tires - not great but a willing compromise knowing Im driving a stout porker thats as safe as anything on the road. I have an honest, reliable mechanic who has taken care of a couple cars for me - a bonus. Other than scheduled maintenance items, there hasnt been much to repair on the car that would not be expected, given the mileage. Ball joints and motor mounts are the only things that come to mind

  • Great car at great expense - 2003 Volvo XC90
    By -

I have had my XC90 for 39 months now. It has been a pleasure to drive, but very expensive to run and maintain. Using high test gas today makes it even more expensive. The car eats tires--OEM got 14,000. 2nd pair of Michelins got 20,000. But it is secure, safe and comfortable. You have to decide if the $$s are worth the tradeoff.
