What other vehicle out there cleans the air when it drives ? I quote from my XC90 brochure The radiator of the XC90 has a special coating, PremAir, which converts up to 75% of the ozone it encounters into oxygen. Volvo had waited in the wings for a decade and observed all the SUV dos and donts and then BAM! they came out with the XC90.

The Volvo XC90 is probably the best SUV out there. Its comfort level is very high, and its gas milage is okay (if you want better mileage, go with the five seater). The Volvo XC90 will turn heads on the freeway, and give you comments where you go.

  • Price Gouging - 2003 Volvo XC90

Ordered new XC-90 in January. Received notice that now getting 04 model and will be subject to $600 price increase. Volvo knows they have a hot car for once and sticking it to consumer. Dealer unwilling to negotiate any reduction of increase. Volvo jamming all customers with this increase. Also, watch for expensive scheduled service.

  • What Volvo is not telling you about this car. - 2003 Volvo XC90

I would stay far away from buying another Volvo after everything my family has been through with our 2003 XC90. The engines are not built to work with the transmissions. We have replaced the transmission every 30,000 miles. It has now become a safety issue. It has broken down on me too many times to count. I have dumped almost $12,000 into it. Go look at the service center at your local Volvo dealership. The lot is full of cars needing repairs. We have replaced the transmission 3 times, radiator, shocks, struts, axles, arm bushings...even down to the door handles. Do not make the same mistake we did. It is not a reliable car and I consider it a safety risk to drive.

  • A Safe and Smart Midzize SUV - 2003 Volvo XC90

Sharp looking, safe anb a 3rd row that gives you room in the back...my wife loves her truck. The engine is a bit small but it is for my wife who does not floor it. Very smart design and comfortable ride.

  • excellent all round performance - 2003 Volvo XC90

I have used this vehicle on the school run as well as on long distance trips overseas in Europe. The comfort reliability and ability on and offroad is exceptional. A recent trip to france with 6 people luggage and 12 cases of champagne proves that this is really in a class of its own. Our Mercedes SUV and X5 dont come near in comfort and drive quality. Lastly, the interior space is unbelievable in the XC90.

Such a great car! Did alot of research - Edmunds really helped. The child seat was my weakness. My son is 3 and cant use it till 4. I noticed how well worth it it was the first 5:00 am I drove to work. xenon headlights made a big difference and the handling on LA freeways was so comforting - coming from an explorer HUGE difference. Worth every penny.

  • Best of the Best - 2003 Volvo XC90

I felt that this was the best SUV that I drove. I drove the x5 (all over the road), the Acura MDX (Too stiff) but lots of goodies for the price. I have to wait for mine to come in. Seems like there is a long waiting list

  • Less than thrilled- Consider the T5 - 2003 Volvo XC90
    By -

I am not delighted with this car. There is a noticeable squealing whenever I back off the accelerator. The problem (thought to be turbocharger back-pressure) is currently "under investigation" by Volvo. The windshield washers are loose and turn on their own. Not the kind of build quality you would expect on a $40K+ car. Fuel economy on the T6 is awful. In summary, there are no major problems but this is not what I expected for $43K. Do not overlook the T5 version as it is nearly as fast as the T6 with smoother performance due to the 5 speed transmission. It also has much better fuel economy. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought the T5.
