This Year's Model Updates:

A new high-performance model, the S60 R, will become available later in the year. Otherwise, minor changes are in store for Volvo's sport sedan for 2003. A leather-wrapped steering wheel, along with a stereo with a CD and a cassette deck, now grace the interior of the 2.4 and the 2.4T. The latter also gets foglights and wood dash trim in its standard equipment list. For the all-wheel-drive version, the 2.4 turbocharged engine receives a small bump in displacement and horsepower. Rain-sensing wipers and OnCall Plus (the telematics system) are available, and two new colors, Titanium Grey and Ruby Red, brighten the exterior.

Pros:
  • Long list of standard safety features, luxurious interior, powerful turbocharged engine in top-line T5 model, deceptively quick 2.4T power plant, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport-sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, torque steer in the T5 model.

Too small in back seat. Excellent handling. Front passenger side not much leg room. Wonderful riding. Big disappointment: NO FOG LIGHTS!

The combination of performance and great driving fun and luxury is unique in a car of this price. The interior feels rich more like cars in the 40K and up level. The 197HP engine is misleading. Cant explain it but as a previous owner of a modified 1999 Mustang GT...I do know what performance feels like. This car combines a strong engine with European drive feel and luxury (no cheap plastic parts like...Lexus, Acura, Infinity. This car is an affordable alternative to Mercedes and Jaguar.

The comfort, performance and handling are great. The driving experience is exhilarating. And in terms of safety, the car does live up to what its cracked up to be. I was hit by a Ford Explorer going 55 mph on my left front; it rolled; obviously totaled. The Volvo, $14k to fix. The frame & wheel-well was not affected at all. It was unreal. The car was driveable. And being inside, I didnt see him coming (which was good) so all I heard was this crunching metal sound. I didnt feel anything. It was the equivalent of going over a rail-road track. Very strange. There was myself, front passenger and a child in the left- rear. No injuries.

By far, this is the best vehicle Ive ever owned. Performance is second to none and the car stops on a dime. Its also the safest car on the road. I very much respect a company whose main concern is the safety of passengers. If your in the market, trust me. Throw your BMW and Lexus brochures away. You have no idea what your in for with the Volvo.

  • Reliable, Safe, Fast, great MPG - 2003 Volvo S60

Best vehicle I have ever owned. Ultra-reliable! Have 100K miles and have put nothing but brakes, tires, filters, bulbs and one O2 sensor in the car. Find me a toyota or honda that is that reliable, I dare you! Still as fast as the day I bought it. Gets 33 MPG on the highway at 75 mph. Still looks like new, leather looks perfect, everything works. Why they do not hold their value, no idea. Easily will get 250K miles and still be beautiful doing it. Highly recommend as a used gem of a car. Why buy a used camry or accord for more money, when you can get a loaded Volvo that gets better mpgs!

  • Mix of sporty character and luxury - 2003 Volvo S60

My first Volvo, the best car Ive ever owned. Solidly-built, very comfy ride, more comfy than sporty though. Makes great safe family car, but still gives you feeling of driving coupe. Definitely go for TURBO version, basic 2.4 seemed a bit sluggish, 2,4T moves.

Having driven pickup trucks for the past 20 years this Volvo S60is quite a change. So far I have put 45,000 miles on the vehicle in 9 months. During cross country trips from Southern California to Northwest Wisconsin my gas mileage averages 34.2mpg! This car is fun to drive, handles well and has not had any defects.

I just drove home in my new Platinum Green Metallic Volvo 2.4T with Geartronic 5 speed automatic. I chose this car over the Acura 3.5RL and the G35 Infiniti. While both the other cars were very nice, I felt the Volvo had the best combination of comfort, safety, performance and styling. Just getting into this car evokes a feeling that the other two couldnt equal. As for reliability, I will have to judge that later. However, I have two friends who have Volvos, one with over 200,000 miles and the other with over 100,000 and neither have had any major problems. Im looking forward to a long comfortable ride.

  • One of the best cars I have ever had - 2003 Volvo S60

Of all the cars I have ever owned this is one of my favorites. This is a solid built very comfortable car. I would suggest the power seat package. The interior can look kind of drab, I have the extra wood kit and it makes a 100% difference in the look of the dash and interior I typically only keep a car 3 to 4 years I have had this one going on 6 years and still enjoy driving it. The car is great in bad weather, you hit the “W” mode and the car grips the road in heavy rain. The rear fog light gets people to back off tailgating in the heavy fog. On the freeway for road trips I get about 30 MPG, in town I average about 19 MPG. The 60/40 split folding back seat is nice to have.
