Just owned my Touareg TDI for 24 hours now. Really wanted the hybrid but the whole Chicagoland area is only getting about 10 hybrids for the whole 2011 model year. Seems like an advertising scam to me. The TDI surprisingly has little torque until past 2K rpms. My GX470 seemed to have much better torque at 1300 rpms even though it is rated at 76 less lb ft torque. Handles really well, similar to my wifes G35x. Fit and finish is well executed. I seem to have no problem meeting or exceeding the govt rated MPGs. Over all, Im happy with the purchase but at these steep prices, I dont think VW is going to sell many of these!

Traded in my 09 for the 2011,also picking up a AWD CC for my summer car, which I ended up not needing. My previous car had been a excellent off- roader, and presuming that the new one carried on with the off-road creds, bought the 11 model. I purchased it in summer not needing off-road capability ,and found the car flawless with a buttery smooth ride, gorgeous looks in and out, great fuel economy, and lots of space. As soon as winter began however, the car turned out to be a nightmare. It simply cannot leave the beaten trail, lacking any off road potential. I understand that few people go venture, but the ability to drive in mud bogs and cross rivers is mandatory in Northern Alska.

  • Great car. Technology features not tested for U.S. - 2011 Volkswagen Touareg

Ive had my 2011 Touareg TDI for 1 year. Overall, great experience. Im an Audi loyalist, yet my VW TDI is a favorite. My Touareg has blemishes. Im 6+mo. into trying to get my Bluetooth fixed. A VW factory engineer confirmed mine isnt usable. Call recipients cant hear me. On any iPhone (3, 3G, 4, 4S) it is not usable because it picks up excessive road noise (VW didnt QA test iPhones?). VW USA and my dealer have been lackluster in support. I was told by VWs Executive Care team that I will have to pursue other means like BBB and CA Attorney General to fix this because VW USA doesnt have a trend of this as a problem. Apparently, Im the first. So great experience with a major blemish

I only have 600 miles on the vehicle and all of it has been in town. I plan to update this as I get more miles. No opinion on mileage, road noise, ride on long trips, reliability, service, and handling in the snow, Yet. I have ordered the towing package but it hasnt come in yet. I dont use the phone bluetooth.

My last 3 trucks were two Land Rover Discoveries and then the LR3. I was ready to trade in after five years and surveyed the landscape of real trucks - LR4, Sport, Armada, Infinit - you name it. I drove the Touareg and decided to go for it. It has good truck sensibilities, but drives like the Cayenne. It is comfortable and more economic than the 11 mph LR4.

This is my first VW and I am somewhat satisfied, but feel like the car is constantly down shifting when you are driving at a slower speed. It kind of feels like when you down shift too quickly in a five speed. It kind of jerks when it does it. Not sure if its just an issue with the individual car or something I need to get use to. The other very annoying and disappointing feature is for a $49,000 suv, I am shocked that keyless entry and push button start are not a standard feature. Very disappointing to say the least. Otherwise, its a beautiful, sleek, comfortable, sturdy and reliable suv.
