This Year's Model Updates:

The top-of-the-line W8 model has been discontinued. The GLX loses its standard telematics system. New 16-inch "Rockstar" alloy wheels are standard on the GLS (in place of the former 15s), and new 17-inch "Bistar" alloys are optional on the GLS and GLX.

Pros:
  • Better handling dynamics than most sedans in its class, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive, unique diesel engine option.
Cons:
  • Upper-level models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals, less rear-seat room and storage than competitors, V6 is down on power.

Picked our new Passat up in Oregon and drove to Southern California. Went through rain, Snow and highwinds. The handling is superb. Averaged 37 MPG overall. Drove mostly back highways to enjoy the handling. It was all I could do to get my wife to let me drive. Her car is a Lexus and she likes the handling of the Passat better.

  • Best Car that has ever been built - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

This car drives like a Mercedes. I holds the road like glue and it is very smooth. The four cylinder turbo acts like its a 6 with remarkable pick up on the highway and plenty of room for packing things. It has very comfortable heated seats with several adjustments for lumbar support. Both front windows roll up and down with a touch of a button once and all the windows go up or down using the outside key. The workmanship is solid.

This is the second TDI that ive owned and both have been excellent road cars. I enjoy the engine torque that gives outstanding highway performance. Yes, diesels can have performance and the enconomy is a added benifit.

  • All I have to say is Excellent! - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

I bought my car a few months ago and I think its the best investment I have ever made! This car is so easy to handle, has great power, comfortable, especially on long trips, great gas miles, and very good looking! Also very roomy inside. I love all the features. VW did a great job on this one! I love my car!

  • Great Wagon - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

This is a great family car. The interior is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the elegant exterior. To me it looks like a car that should be twice as expensive as it actually is. The mileage is very good, close to 40mpg on the highway. The diesel engine performs very well. It is a little more noisy at idle than a gasoline engine, but once you start driving it, you wont notice any more noise than a gasoline engine. The standard features (no extra cost) on this car are numerous. The only options are leather seats, Climatronic (electronic climate controls), and bigger wheels. It is a very well appointed car. Highly recommended.

This is an outstanding machine. The European style diesel engine is fun to drive and economical. And, it is a good looking car to boot.

  • 2005 Passat GLX Wagon Experience - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

After looking at a variety of upscale wagons (Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar X-Type, Volvo, Audi, and VW Passat), we chose the VW. The Passat handles well, accelerates smoothly and the interior appointments are on par with the finest luxury wagons. The heated leather seats are incredibly comfortable. Its cargo space is more than adequate for shopping trips or travel. The rear passenger seating and leg room are great and you can actually fit three adults in the backseat. The GLX trim comes with a Monsoon stereo system that puts the Bose system we had in our former car to shame.

  • To Heck With the Hybrids! - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

This car will grow on you and you will be very happy you no longer own a gas-guzzling SUV; it is an excellent car with great cargo capacity, perfect for my family of 4, absolutely awesome highway car. I got the GSL with Leather + wood, ESP and winter package, and added the rear 6 CD-changer. Solid handling, and this thing is built as solid as a tank.

  • Fun to drive - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

This is my 5th VW but the first diesel and I must say it is one of the best , the ride is good the car is very well made and the mpg is around 33 in town. never been on a long road trip yet so cant say what the mpg would be. If I could change on thing on the car it would be to extend the length of the front seat a few inches where the front edge of the seat would hit loweron my legs.

Solid ride coupled with unsurpassed fuel economy makes it the easiest choice Ive made in a long time. Fit and finish is tight and interior is well thought out. Doesnt give you that cheap feel/look of its japanese counterparts.
