This Year's Model Updates:

The Sportwagen body style and diesel-fueled TDI engine debut for the 2009 VW Jetta. Unlike the previous-generation Jetta's TDI, this more powerful diesel engine is 50-state certified in terms of emissions. Other changes throughout the Jetta lineup include stability control, heated seats and heated washer nozzles added as standard equipment. The optional navigation system has also been substantially upgraded to include a touchscreen interface and a 30GB hard drive.

Pros:
  • Diverse selection of strong engines, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
Cons:
  • Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

  • Solid Performer - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I leased a 2009 Jetta SE. Overall, this is a solid compact sedan. For the price paid, the car comes loaded with a lot of options, such as express windows up and down, heated seats, power seats, and a very plush leatherette interior. The interior is without a doubt the high point of the Jetta. It makes me feel like Im in a more expensive car. The ride is compliant and sound. It is firm yet supple. Power is good, not great, but brake performance is no better than average. Fuel economy is decent, but I feel it should be better. If Im easy on the engine, I can get 26- 27 MPG. Overally, I really like the Jetta and have no regrets so far. Its been reliable at 2K miles. VW has style and uniquenes

  • Crown Victoria to Jetta TDI - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

After driving a Ford Crown Victoria for 18 years, it is going to take a while to get used to a smaller car where I feel and hear more of the road than I would like. The 16-inch rims and low profile tires give the car a sporty feel but I prefer the smoother ride of a large sedan. I took the Mercury Milan Hybrid on a test drive first but it was priced too high. It was smoother and quieter than the Jetta. I am impressed with the fuel efficiency after 500 miles. I am getting 34 mpg city and 47 highway while driving between 65-70 mph. When the piston rings are seated and the car is more broken in, I expect to do better.

  • an alright car - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The VW jetta is my first car I own and it good for a person who like to drive leisurely. Its suspension is Rather soft and there is body movement in the corners. But thats not much of a problem if your stuck in traffic moving at 3 mph. The automatic gear box in regular drive mode is quite dumb, its too eager to shift to 5 or 6 gear which is really annoying, so I have to put it into sport or use the tiptronic mode. The biggest problem is the squeaks and rattles, but to fix that all you have to do is turn up the radio. I Rather regret buying this car mostly because the new golf came to market the next month and I would rather have that.

  • Good for 79,500 miles - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

I was a good car for 79,500 miles. Did all routine maintenance plus a new intake manifold but this was not enough to keep it going. It need a whole new engine after 79,500 miles.

  • Bad Lock Modules - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I am now having to have a second doors lock module and possibly latch replaced. The right side went out and was replaced 6 months ago and now the left rear passenger side went out and ahs to be replaced. Problem is warranty is out because of high miles I drive. car is only a year and half old. Overall, a great car. Just be sure if you drive high miles to get them to promise to cover warranty issues i.e. electrical as the lock replacement is 500-1000 per door.

  • Happy with recent pruchase - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I have had the vehicle for 1 week. Adverstised combined epa is 24 mpg. Dealership told me to expect to get a lot more. Took a roadtrip right away and foumd my highway mpg was 38 mpg (70 mph set on cruise). No Joke. I was shocked and thrilled. This is a regular 5 cylinder gas engine not the TDL. Seems to be a solid car with good looks. If reliability holds up Ill be very happy with my purchase.

  • Time to Update - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I bought this car in July 2009 and thought I loved it. Now I regret purchasing this car. Has been in the shop multiple times. Was making a noise in the front end. Said it was sway bar bushings. Replaced. Noise still existed. Dealership had no clue. Turns out, was a "secret" recall on coil springs for the first 50000 manufactured. Noise gone but steering doesnt seem the same. Constantly feels as if you are in a wind storm driving over 60. Again dealership has no clue and said is fine. Fuel economy is not the best either. I should have spent the money and gotten the transmission fixed on my Explorer. Doubtful I will keep this car much longer. No longer happy with it and only 3900 miles!

  • 2nd set of coilovers - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

so I changed my oem suspension to a reputable companys coilovers about some 3 or 4 years. OMGOGMGGOMG, the car handled sooo much differently and moooar enjoyable to drive.....even with a drop of about 1" or 1.5" car runs great on long drives...although a little more road noise....but thats fixed via the radio volume. Other than getting new tires....the oil change and small things Ive had NO problems w/my car....except the stupid door dings at the grocery store....

  • One-year update on Jetta TDI - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

After 16 months, 22,000 miles. Paint is very soft, hood has numerous chips. Idiot dealer response-"do you drive a lot on the freeway?". Rear brakes overheat frequently, 50% worn with front brakes virtually unused. Idiot dealer response-"thats the way the car is designed". Just received notice from Volkswagen of possible premature wear in transmission, along with extension of the transmission warranty to 100,000 miles, but apparently only on the particular part that is wearing out prematurely. Steering requires more effort than I would like. Seats well shaped but hard. Cost of diesel consistently $.30 higher than gasoline. Good points: excellent fuel mileage (38 average, up to 54 On

  • 2009 VOLKSWAGEN TDI - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The car is great! It handles like a sportscar with good acceleration. It is smooth a high speeds. Lots of cargo space with the rear seats that fold down flat. Decent fuel economy averaging 35-39 mpg depending on speeds.
