Overview & Reviews
For 2004, all Jetta models get an updated look, optional telematics and a new and more powerful 1.9-liter TDI engine (GL and GLS models only). The 2.0-liter engine is now PZEV-rated, and the GLX trim is no longer available. Also note that you can no longer get the 1.8T engine in GL trim. Besides that, the GLI sedan sports new 17-inch alloy wheels and the Cold Weather Package items (heated seats and washer nozzles) as standard, while the GLS features a standard Monsoon stereo. The wagons get a revised instrument cluster late in the model year, and the sedans get new metallic trim rings around the gauges.
- Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI power plant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard safety features, solid build quality.
- More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom, weak base four-cylinder.

Nice way to enter the driving world :) - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By VWfan93 - July 5 - 7:53 pmIm a sixteen year old, and recently got my Volkswagen jetta, tdi, wolfsberg edition. This car is soooo Nice, I love it. The handling, the power, the diesel, the seats, everything! You name it my car, has it. I have loved this cars sense they came out and Im so glad I got one. Sure, it has its down falls. One being when I slow down the steering gets harder. But, as I go faster its sooo easy, which is better :). I love the diesel engine getting about 45-50, Im pretty happy. I could not ask for a better car, cant wait for 200k :)

Jetta fun- but bad front suspension - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By turbohack - July 4 - 10:00 amLove the cars performance - really quick out of the hole (watch that red- line - tach revs-up really quick). Handles nice and I love the sunroof. Moonsoon stereo so-so. Right front suspension clunks on a left turn over a bump. Two weeks and three tries cant find the problem. I want my Jetta back - w/o the clunk !

Great car to own/drive - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Mike - June 19 - 11:23 pmThe TDI wagon has been a great car - few problem, great mileage, comfortable, and it can carry all of the things you need. I installed a tow hitch on mine to drag a GTX 4TEC Sea Doo and it has no problems getting it out of the water. We do get some funny looks as the PWC is almost as big as the car. Our golden retriever has not offered any complaints about riding in it. It performs well for a diesel - no sluggishness from this car. You step on the gas and go!

Excellent Warranty - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By jmkeat0 - June 2 - 2:00 amI bought my car on a Saturday, and it has been in the shop since the following Monday. The fuel gauge stopped working, and the dealership is trying to figure out why. For the brief period of time that I drove my new car, it was excellent. Im anxiously awaiting her return.

Volkswagens are unreliable - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Vinny C. - June 2 - 2:00 amI have had nothing but trouble with my Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T. By far the worst car I have ever had in reliability, and the people that work at University Volkswagen in Albuquerque are very rude and not into helping at all. I would advise never to buy a Volkswagen.

VW Jetta GLS 2.0 5 Speed - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Dean B - May 28 - 10:00 amI love my Jetta. No gripes so far, its fun to drive, good fuel economy. The only problem is that fluff or dust easily get into the speedometer console and its hard to get that out.

Ugh! Headache within 2 months! - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By David - May 1 - 5:36 pmTruthfully do not waste your time with this car... I got this car used at 64k miles... Exterior and Interior was BEAUTIFUL. 2 weeks after I have the car my check engine light come on. Take it back to the dealership they check it... its the AC temp gauge. They replace it... 2 days later the check engine light come on again. Take back to the dealership and they ask me to bring it back when I can use give up some time... later that day my dies. every dashboard light comes on and my ac and radio stops working... its been almost 2 weeks and the dealership can figure out what wrong with this car. I had a friend with a year older model and the same occurred with his car...
