My little TDI has a secret. It drives like a sports car and gets 40 real world mpg. I usually get tired of new cars fast. I didnt want to give up my 3 series, but I had to..-$ On the bright side, I love this car. It handles very well, has great seats, outstanding steering feel, plenty of grip and 236 ft lbs RIGHT NOW, its sooo entertaining. For my 35 mile one way commute, I cant imagine a better car. I was afraid I would miss my bimmer and I do... a little. But this car makes driving fun the way no japanese car can. My only criticism is that 1st gear is short and not very usable. This car is quicker than the numbers say once you get out of 1st, HEHE.

I sold my Mazda RX-8 to buy, and I couldnt be happier. Ive been wanting to buy a more practical hatchback with better fuel economy but still sporty, and the Golf fits that description exactly. Although not nearly as powerful as my Mazda, it has plenty of acceleration, and Im having fun trying to get the best mileage. It also has very good handling, again not as good as the Mazda, but Im pleasantly surprised at how good it is. One other thing, compared to my high-pitched rotary, the diesel sounds very deep, and its a sound Im growing to love more and more. Also, definitely go with the manual, although I do hate automatics.

You really get a lot for your money with the 2010 Golf. The VW is a bit pricier than its competition, but you get what you pay for, because unlike its competitors its no tin can! Everything about this car is top notch. It handles well with very tight, and responsive steering. The Golf is well isolated from road noise, suspension soaks up bumps, and wind noise is so subdued its almost nonexistent. The overall fit and finish is a cut above previous generations and feels more 3-series than corolla. After all, it didnt win "World Car of the Year" award for nothing. Lets be honest, the Golf is the only car in its class that you wouldnt be ashamed to take your date in to a 5-star restaurant.

  • As good as an Audi - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

Wonderful car. My wifes second Golf Diesel, and one of the best cars we have owned. She takes Guide Dogs in Training everywhere and the extra large crate fits easily when needed. Very comfortable and quiet. We get 60mpg when cruising on the highway. Very difficult to tell its a diesel. Quiet, peppy and almost no smell, even when cold. I think the quality is as good as my own 2007 Audi A4 Avant, just without the wood. The way in which the switches and instruments are lit at night, along with the red night lights, is superb.

  • overall an excellent car - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

I love my little car; but a few things still have to be improved. The seaters and the stearing wheel have a limited adjustment. The radio loose some time the reception and the arm rest is a too inefficient. The outside mirror adjustment is inconvenient to use

  • Good so far - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

I now have 10k miles, trouble free. Excellent handling, great mpg (43avg). There is light noise coming from drivers side door, dealer says they tighten but still there. Be careful where you buy your diesel, make sure it specifies ULTRA-LOW sulfur and stay away from the LOW sulfur fuel. Gas stations can continue to sell LOW sulfur fuel until the end of 2010. Dealer didnt mention that when I purchased the vehicle.

  • A Great Little 4-Door Hatchback - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

Bought it as a surprise BD present for wife to replace her 03 CR-V. Dealer gave me $3k off the msrp! I did some research before I bought. But took the car on the 1st test drive because the deal they offered me was too good to resist. The quality is the best in its class. Fronts seats are very huggy and supportive. We get about 23 city and 32 hwy. I am somewhat disappointed at the power from 170 hp motor. Test drove the new Camry with 2.5L motor seemed a lot more peppier. To take off from stop in D, there is a hesitation. I thought it starts in 2nd but when I put it to M it does show 1st. However, if you take off in S mode, the car seems to be much more peppier with better throttle response.

The car is great. I picked it up for under 20,000 OTD and my dealership threw in rims, tint, and floor mats (couldnt drive off the lot with hubcaps). Bottom line is my car is getting around 27MPG with a lot of my driving being in the city. I have less than 1k miles so the car run as expected, perfectly. The new VW carefree maintenance program is great, covers all scheduled maintenance including oil changes until 3yrs/36k mi. Compared to other economy cars it is far beyond anything in its price range. All of the little things and build quality made the 2010 GOLF the clear choice for me, instrument panel, interior build, seats are great all & its half the price to insure (compared to civic)

  • so much fun - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

Ive owned the vehicle for three weeks. Filled up for the first time at 525 miles at a little under 1/4 tank left and averaged 38mpg. I have a combination of in town and highway miles driven each day. Considering how I drive, I believe this is fantastic! I have owned a 2001 Dodge Diesel truck which I have kept due to reliability and the fact that it is paid for. I plan on keeping this vehicle for 10 years as well. I hope the reliability is as good as my truck. If so, they may be the last vehicles I own. Diesel is the way to go for reliability and fuel economy.

  • 10,000 Update - 2010 Volkswagen Golf
    By -

After 10K miles in 7 months (drove from Atlanta, where I bought it, to Los Angeles), Im happy to say that my TDI has exceeded my expectations. Reliability has been excellent, other than the TPMS warning light that was fixed with a software update. My best mileage has been 52.5 mpg, and the solidity has held up pretty well, even over rough LA freeways. Acceleration is as spirited as ever, and I still marvel at the sport seats every time I sit in them (Im almost 63", and achieving this kind of comfort in a small car is no easy feat). Does anyone (who doesnt have ten kids or weigh more than 400 lbs) really need more than this car offers? In my opinion, no.
