  • In a class all its own. - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

Ive read many reviews about this car and price keeps coming in to play regarding the market this car competes in. Id have to say this is a truly premium, upscale compact car with engineering and sophistication unmatched by the likes of the Mazda 3, Honda Civic, and others not worth mentioning. The execution of the VW Golf from top to bottom, including materials and build quality, refinement, comfort, and ride and handling is in a class all its own. I thinks its worth every penny extra over its competitors. This is truly a driving enthusiasts car, with fuel efficiency that rivals many hybrids.

Just bought a new 2010 Golf TDI, moving up from a 95 Golf III Sport, Fantastic. Fun to drive. Picked up on Wed and drove to Denver overnight for Thanksgiving. Handled perfectly all night. Took it to Loveland Pass, 11,099 ft, and to Breckenridge while there and it performed great, just ate up the mountains. Plenty of power to eat up the switchbacks and the altitude. Room for stuff in back i.e. groceries, bike w/wheels off, need a bike roof rack now, and luggage too. Love the 6 speed manual 80 mph at 2,200 rpm. A real solid car and really fun to drive too. Great, best VW I have owned. Best drive to Denve I have ever had. 1,500 miles in first week. Everything Bob in R.I says and more. later

I just bought a 2010 Golf TDI in the waning hours of 2009. In my limited time with the car is has exceeded my expectations. I bought this car primarily as a commuter vehicle for its high fuel economy. So far the mileage has been great and its performance has exceeded my expectations. Most other cars that get similar mileage are about as fun as an iPod to drive. The build quality is good and the car feels solid. The mark VI Golf looks like it will be a winner although time will be the judge of that.

The interior is nice, but with a gap in the center console. The engine has good torque, but runs out of steam on the top end.The ride is firm, but there is body lean. This car starts to feel a little "floaty" at higher speeds on the highway (above 85). There was some initial quality issues. Shifting is better than some, but not as nice as my 2000 celica, which I do miss more than I thought I would since buying the Golf. I do like this car though, and I thought it was nicer than the civic or the tc I test drove. In closing I feel the need to be critical about the throttle by wire. It lacks any real feel.It seems like it could be calibrated much better.

Traded a 2003 MB E-320 on a 2010 Prius, and the Prius on this. The MB certified pre-owned warrantee ran out, and I worried about pricey repairs. The Prius was cool, bigger, but was boring to drive, and it felt cheap. The VW retains some of the MB satisfying qualities, in a car I can more afford to buy new, which includes a new car warrantee. It has nice touches, like the MB did, rubberized dashboard covering, nice, precise wheels on the air vents, that click like theyre jeweled, when you switch them closed. The motor is very MB-like: torquey, very deep torque band: nice at slow speeds, but plenty of very satisfying room for your foot to go down. Very satisfying, fun, likable car.

  • Golf TDI...worth the money - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

The Golf TDI may be at the expensive end of the economy car segment, but its worth it. Premium materials inside, excellent quality, great driving experience, and fantastic fuel economy are all worth the price of admission. I considered a Jetta Wagon TDI, but chose the Golf TDI instead...the suspension is firmer on the Golf, and to equip a Jetta Wagon to the same level as the Golf would have made the Jetta considerably more expensive. Its got very roomy front and back seats, and the front seats are similar to the seats in the GTI so they are sporty yet comfortable.

  • Sporty, Safe & Economical - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

I literally searched the entire US to find a car configured the way I wanted. Found the car after a seven- month search 850-miles away. The local dealership had a sold order but could not get the car. VW factory ordering is a waste of time! It is a fun car to drive. The torque is amazing! The build quality is excellent. Diesel MPG is all that I expected and more. I have the 4-dr TDI with Xenons, sunroof, 6 spd, AM, and some other stuff. Get this car!

  • Nice car, great mileage, no quality. - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

This is a nice little car. The interior is very user friendly and the exterior is about as good as you can get with an economy car. Downsides, dealers mark up from MSRP because of tax credit of the TDIs. The build quality seems lacking. Within 3,000 miles it had a small oil leak which turned out to be a faulty crankshaft seal. Also the side marker lamp went out and the dealership (Lewisville VW) claimed something hit it yet the lens was still intact and undamaged. Bought the car for dependable long didtance rides but having serious doubts about it now....

  • Never Look Back - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

Ive driven this car for five full months now and it has performed beyond my expectations. Around the neighborhood or across the state, wonderful! I initially thought the seats too firm. Negative. Ive got a bad back and for the first time in years, I can make a six hour drive and still walk standing straight-up. Performance is excellent for 170 HP motor and the build quality far exceeds the Asian rivals. The quiet on the highway is almost eerie. It is quite amazing how much gear you can store in the cargo area WITHOUT laying the seat-backs down. All of this and the Golf comes with a functional rear seat, 26 mpg in town and 35 on the highway. Such a deal!

  • Fuel Tank Swooshing Sound - 2010 Volkswagen Golf

Enjoy everything about this car except quality problems. Car door was misaligned when purchased and Fuel tank makes a swooshing sound, when one comes to a stop. Dealer says potential baffles defect and/or other?????
