This Year's Model Updates:

The 2007 Toyota Prius lineup gets a little racier, as Toyota adds the Prius Touring model, which has a sport-tuned suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, xenon headlights and a larger rear lip spoiler. The other notable change for 2007 is that the original Toyota hybrid car now comes standard with front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags.

Pros:
  • Outstanding gas mileage, low emissions, generous amount of interior room, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, excellent build quality, reasonable price.

  • Big step up from a Corolla - 2007 Toyota Prius
    By -

I drove a Toyota Tercel and then a Toyota Corolla and this is a huge step up from both in both ride comfort and fuel efficiency. I have averaged over 50 mpg in a combination of highway/city driving versus about 35-40 in my Corolla. The only weakness is power going up moderate to steep hills. I would highly recommend this vehicle.

  • Great Touring - 2007 Toyota Prius

My Touring Edition is still in the early ownership phase. Its current gas mileage is in the upper 30s with mostly city driving. I attribute this to a couple of factors: its new, its winter and cold, and winter blended gasahol dents the mileage. I love the handling. The interior room is OK but foot/leg position for the driver isnt quite right for me. Fit and finish are great which is typical for Toyota. Like other hybrids, there are some driving techniques which really boost the gas mileage.

  • The Best of Hybrids - 2007 Toyota Prius

Great car with ample room for a family of 4-5. Gas mileage combined road/city is 50 mpg. Driving the Prius is an enjoyable experience.

  • Best car on the planet! - 2007 Toyota Prius

Terrific car, as everyone says. Writing this mostly to contest the editors comment that on the highway, when the battery is not being charged, the gas engine is "anemic." This is not true - it drives great at highway speeds. The editors comment reflects a common misunderstanding of how hybrids work. The main reason fuel efficiency is so good is NOT due to regenerative braking or charging the battery at low speeds. Its because normally engines are sized for acceleration, and that wastes lots of gas when traveling at constant speed, even at 70 mph. With the Prius, the small engine cruises fine at 70 mph, and saves you lots of gas. For acceleratation, the electric motor kicks in - brilliant!

  • Better than expected - 2007 Toyota Prius

Excellent car, quiet, easy to drive, 1 touch to start (w/ smart key option), lot of usable storage room, nice touch screen, great mpg even on highway, more than enough power to get on the freeway. Body roll is slightly excessive.

  • A Great Little Car - 2007 Toyota Prius

Firstly, the cabin space is surprisingly big with plenty of legroom all round. The toys are great - Bluetooth for the phone and a good sound system. On the motorway with rolling 40-70 mph traffic I get 60 mpg+, urban consumption is around 58 mpg and at constant 70 mph gets me 52 mpg. If there is anyone getting less than 50 mpg then either the car has a fault or they are not using the "float" method, i.e. very little pressure on the accelerator to keep the car spinning along at the same speed. Ever so quiet engine and with the ECVT drive it gives a very smooth ride.

  • The Prius exceeded my expectations. - 2007 Toyota Prius

Average gas mileage for 5700 miles is over 51 MPG. I keep a running total of use in my business. When you learn how to feel this car and use the onboard display you can increase your mileage and reduce green house emissions. This vehicle performs well and handles better than anticipated. My other vehicle is a Nissan 350Z so I understand performance. I would encourage everyone to consider this automobile because it is a socially responsible alternative to increased dependence on imported oil that comes from unstable sources.

2007 with Option 6 (leather, nav, backup camera). Drive car daily in both city and highway conditions. Have not had a single problem. I average 57 MPG in the summer and 52 in the winter. Usually can drive around 525-550 miles per tank. Surprised by the acceleration, it moves! Love the car, highly recommend it, especially for commuters.

  • An Overall Winner - 2007 Toyota Prius

I bought this car to use as my commuter vehicle into NYC from New Jersey every day. It was all about fuel economy. After using it, my whole family prefers to take the Prius on trips rather than a larger, less economical car because of the room and the ride. I am considering getting rid of that to get my wife a Prius. My fuel economy is less than I expected, but still better than any other car my 63" frame would fit in, at an average of 44 mpg in mostly stop and go driving. I have gotten as good as 52 mpg though with "regular" driving. I have not had any problems with this vehicle, so I cant complain on that front. All in all this car is a winner!

  • Ten Gallons a Month - 2007 Toyota Prius
    By -

Pros - very peppy, fun to drive, average mpg 43-44, excellent quality and reliability, cutting edge features, i.e., keyless fob, touch screen, steering wheel controls for stereo, heat/AC. Unusually quiet as highway speeds. Just completed our first trip on interstate from NC to PA in I-81 and recorded mpg of 50+, we had averaged 43-44 mpg in combined travel. 50+ on the highway was not expected. Cons - driver seat cramped for tall drivers-2 inches more seat travel would do the trick. Bottom line - well worth the cost if you plan to keep for more than 4 years.
