As a 1st gen hybrid Toyota has done a superb job. If you are curious about the other manufactures reports check out the Dept of Energy web site and compare the notes yourself, Toyota leads the others by 10yrs in development this car has been operational on the roads since 97 in Japan and available in the US since 01. Seating 5 pax and an excellent commuter, I would recommend this car to anyone who loves to save money with an 11.9gal tank I got 485 miles on one tank, and average about 40.2 mpg my last 3000 miles I have driven. Given that I drive hard and fast thatÂ’s great for a lead foot, the car maxes out at 101mph.

I was very excited when I bought this car last November. It only had 24,000 miles with one owner. When I bought the car the dealership said they installed a brand new battery. After a month or two, the battery would not keep a charge. I had to go buy a battery charger (dealer suggestion) and now have to charge the car every other week or it wont start. The dash electronic system shows that the battery is being charged as I drive like normal. But, it wont hold the charge and drains VERY easily. The dealership wont do anything about it. Wont buy from them again. Normal battery cost $250-300! It has turned out to be a very unreliable car because I never know if it is going to start or not.

The Toyota Prius is my first economy car, and I would own no other. Also would not own it as my only car. But as a second car to use for work commutes, going to the store and other trips around town, you cant beat it. It is actually fun to drive and I am getting 45 mpg in the city, zipping along in left lane traffic. Due to its gas-electric hybrid nature, it is also extremely QUIET, which is a new trip all in itself and which makes driving it all the more fun.

Typical Toyota, superior technology with all the creature comforts. Drives as smooth as a midsize car, with the handling of a small car. More than enough power for for day to day situations.

I LOVE MY PRIUS and brag about it frequently to others. I bought it new and now have 81,000 miles on it. It still runs perfectly. The gas mileage is not as high as was advertised, but I still get 41 mpg even when running the ac or defrost. I was nervous about the reliability of the Hybrid System but Ive had no battery problems. At 70k miles, Toyota replaced the computer chip (warranty) as I had a "Start Failure" warning light. It seems to have fixed the problem. Others comments are true re: wind resistance, poor tires, turning radius excellent for parallel parking, and computer screen making my foot lighter...

Have 5000 miles on car bought on Jan. 15, 2002. Have had absolutely no problems with it. I love to drive it. I love the 45 - 50 miles per gallon economy.

it is peppy for a hybrid vehicle. seats are very comfortable for long ride (many trips from dc to detroit). engine is little loud under hard acceleration. the headlights is not too bright. cupholders are too shallow for cans and tall cups. because of the small tire/wheels, car seems to wander in heavy wind,

Fun car. Plenty of zip on to the interstate and over the road. Better gas mileage on the highway than stop and go (contrary to the manufacturers claim). Maneuvers extremely well. Could use some work on braking capacity. Great trunk space. Tolerable back seat leg room. Good front seat room and comfort. 42 to 45 mpg real #s for me. Some concern about ultimate cost of battery replacement since I tend to keep cars a long time.

Its a fun little car on the outside and very roomy and comfortable on the inside. Until you sit in it you dont realize how big it is! Very comfortable on a long drive.. No problem going up mountains - and passed many that were bogging down. The milage was great, over 40mpg going up above 7K feet and 49mpg coming back down!!
