This Year's Model Updates:

After a redesign last year, the 2010 Toyota Matrix is unchanged except for the notable addition of standard stability control.

Pros:
  • Pleasant ride, intuitive controls, roomy backseat, flat load floor facilitates cargo carrying, good fuel economy with 1.8-liter engine.
Cons:
  • Unremarkable fuel economy with 2.4-liter engine, 1.8-liter engine unavailable on higher trim levels.

  • Generally a nice car - 2010 Toyota Matrix

A pretty nice little car. Mileage ~31 mpg on the hwy, dropping to 24 when used for short commutes in the winter. Surprisingly roomy front and back - best feature is upright seating. Compared to our 03 civic, this has a smoother ride, poorer fuel economy, more comfortable seats, cludgier HVAC controls, more rattles, but does far far better in snow and ice. Visibility out is OK for me (5-11) and marginal for my wife (5-5): large A pillars and drivers side-view mirror are the main problems for her. Engine a little buzzy above 3000 rpm but fine at cruise and gentle driving. Stereo OK but a bit boomy.

  • Great little SUV - 2010 Toyota Matrix

Ive been driving a Infiniti QX4 for the last 8 yrs or so and has been a good SUV. Due to the outrages gas prices here in Canada Im forced to scale back. I got the 2010 Matrix with the 1.8 liter and sport package and went for the optional hood defector and side moldings for those pesky door dents I hate. Gas mileage is awesome the first tank I put threw it I got 37 mpg or 7 liters per 100 km, blows the stats right out of the water. I suspect it to only get better as things loosen up more, and Im able to use synthetic oil after the break in. Everything has been so far so good, but I havent had it that long yet.

  • Nice car but some safety issues - 2010 Toyota Matrix

This Matrix XR is being driven by a pair of 60plussers involved with elderly care thus requiring transporting elderly person plus wheelchair. This works well due to the relatively high cargo floor and hatchback.

  • Scared to drive this car but it looks good. - 2010 Toyota Matrix

I feel like I paid way too much for the 2010 Matix S which has basic insides- no bells or whisles- blah. The car sounds like its dragging, the tires already are worn before 15,000 miles and hear the problem doesnt go away. Blind spots, drivers head rest is a blind spot and and eye sore and its not comfortable. I use it for work and back. I dont want to take it on long trips for its uncomfortable. Telescope steering wheel means 1/2 in closer to the engine, thats already in your lap.

  • Mid-pack, but reliable - 2010 Toyota Matrix
    By -

Toyota reliability, but thats about it. Average car with overly sensitive pedals and average appearance. The inside space is used effectively, standard materials for the price point, but the overall design isnt for me personally. No issues in two years/45,000km. Dont enjoy driving it too much, but it is certainly functional, with lots of hatchback space for groceries, a large dog - whatever you need. Gas consumption leaves a lot to be desired; even by 2010 model year standards it was decidedly average. Not great fan of the seats. Interior space, reliability, solid build, functionality are good. Drive enjoyability, consumption, appearance are bad. Could to better, could do worse

  • Minor Issues - 2010 Toyota Matrix
    By -

I love this car but I have some minor complaints. On cold days, the fog on the front window is terrible. Water is retained on side windows so you cannot see out. There is also no place to put a drink in the center. I spilled so many drinks.
