  • Great Car; Cheating Salesman - 2004 Toyota Matrix

I love my Matrix! This was my first car purchase, and unfortunatley I dealt with a "cheating, deceiving and lying" salesman. What I thought I was purchasing was a 6-cyclinder Matrix with all wheel drive. Instead, what I found I had purchased was the basic Matrix XR at the Matrix XRS with added features price! What a rat!

Great versatile car. This is the perfect marriage between a midsize sedan and a small SUV. Perfect for hauling people and things (expandable cargo space). The gas mileage is excellent and car is very roomy/comfortable (lots of headroom). I also love the driving position - you sit higher than in a sedan. Excellent value for the price paid.

  • Have to love it! - 2004 Toyota Matrix

My girlfriend and my self were looking for a new vehicle that would fit in our college budgets. We love to travel and snowboard so it needed to have lots of room. We initially looked at small trucks, but when my girlfriend saw this car in the showroom, she looked as if she had found her second love! She always wanted the VW Golf, but it was just too small for our needs. The Matrix provided the size and looks we wanted. We ended up going with the standard version because the XR and XRS were just too low to the ground for any gravel roads. I wouldnt really call it sporty, but it is fun to drive.

  • Best car I have ever owned - 2004 Toyota Matrix

I have owned my Matrix for almost 4 years and I can say that this is the first car I have ever considered keeping beyond 4 years. I am dismayed that they eliminated the AWD option as it has been super through several New England winters. I am a nurse who has to get to work no matter the weather and it has never let me down. The car is fun to drive and gets great mileage considering that it is an AWD small SUV. I have transported furniture and bikes and all sorts of luggage in it. I am a scrapbooker and can carry all of my "stuff" as well as that of a friend in it and have room to spare when we go away for scrapbooking weekends. I have never been attached to a car before this one. Love it!

  • Fun But Also a Pain - 2004 Toyota Matrix
    By -

Pros: Good acceleration, great on trips. Comfortable inside, roomy for passengers, the seats lie flat, front passenger seat lies down - can carry long items. Has an AC outlet. I loved the 6 dsc CD changer and the moonroof. Nice looking exterior. The seat sits a little higher than most sedans and the shift lever is forward on the dash which is comfortable for me. Cons: gas pedal is very touchy. It is easy to stall out when starting from a standstill. Sometimes it has trouble going into 1st or 2nd gears. The engine is annoyingly loud. The "apron" or skirt deal under the front grill is very cheap and low to the ground so it gets scraped all the time.

  • MY 2003 Toyota Matrix XR is AWESOME ! - 2004 Toyota Matrix

In the summer of 2003, just after purchasing this car, i made a trip to California from my home in central Florida. The route taken was north I-95 to West I-10 to California. We traveled up the coast to San Francisco and then journied back through the high country of Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, and on east to I-75 south, takin us back home to central Florida. The fuel mileage on the trip reached 28 city and 36 highway with less in the high mountain zones out west and in Tennissee, which was to be expected.

The car body is to low to the ground causing you to hit parking stops if you pull in too far.

  • Does almost everything quite well - 2004 Toyota Matrix

I like it, recommend it, would buy another. Matrix is 4-dr, Corolla hatchback . F seating is quite comfortable. Upright position gives good vis cept to rear where windows taper. No difficulty finding comfortable seating position (60" - leggy). R leg & seat room large for car this size. Long trips quite possible. Cargo volume and features excellent - 2 usable nets, tie-down rings and tie-down straps std. R deck hard ribbed plastic. 60/40 R seats fold flush & match deck. Will hold a stack of 8 2x4s with hatch closed. The 1.8L, DOHC Corolla engine is nearly perfect - excellent power curve. Surprising acceleration. Five spd manual is excellent.

I have absolutely fallen in love with my Matrix. It is so fun to drive and people are constantly stopping me to ask me questions about it. The gas mileage is wonderful and the insides are very sporty. The Matrix is a very fun and affordable car, where I can still haul things and dont have to compromise on the gas mileage.
