This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota's midsize SUV is fully redesigned for 2008. Significantly larger than the original, the 2008 Highlander features a standard V6 engine and a habitable third-row seat.

Pros:
  • Powerful and fuel-efficient V6, easy to maneuver for its size, user-friendly cabin design with reconfigurable second-row seats and a fully usable third row.
Cons:
  • Third-row seat folds as a single unit rather than in 50/50 sections.

Needed replacement for Windstar Van. Wanted truck to pull 21 boat. With gas reaching $4, needed economy. Highlander was the only vehicle with 5000 lb towing package and good economy. Have almost 1000 miles and have not gotten less than 20 MPG city. Have gotten 26.5 MPG on interstate with cruise on 70MPH. Selected Sport FWD. Excellent fit and finish. JBL is super. Auto rear hatch is great feature. Third row seat can accommodate adults. Love flat cargo floor. Very quiet at highway speed. Lexus quality through out

Main alternatives considered - Jeep Cherokee, Mazda CX-9, and 4-Runner. Love the grey Highlander faceplate on back. Interior is very comfortable, I have cloth b/c all the dealers informed me b/c of a leather embargo, they were now holding leather for Limited only. But Sport has higher grade cloth.

Traded my 06 Highlander (4cyl) in on it because it had been in an accident. We really enjoyed that car; however, it was a base model with no added features. We chose the Sport for all the features. Wow, what a difference! Loaded with creature comforts; quieter, more comfort, power and almost same mpg. Took a 1900 mile trip and averaged 28 mpg at 70 mph. The trip was two adults with luggage. My average in town is 21 mpg (only 10% hwy). We live in Houston so we did not need or want AWD and did not choose the third row seat. We could never find any on the lot and had to order one which was good because it kept all the expensive dealer add ons off.

  • Comfortable and Safe - 2008 Toyota Highlander

I learned how to drive in this car. Its very comfortable for daily driving and on long trips as long as youre not sitting in the 3rd row. It drives great and does well enough on gas. Its a very safe car also. I owe my mothers life to the safety features in this car. Not many people can walk away from hitting a grove of trees at highway speeds. Great SUV for a family!

  • Love It So Far! - 2008 Toyota Highlander

Weve only had our Highlander for a week, but so far, its great. We traded in our Honda Odyssey, because the kids are getting their own licenses now and we wanted something for mostly us. However, we were reluctant to give up the roominess of the Odyssey. Our Highlander still maintains the feeling of spaciousness, fits the kids comfortably, when needed and just feels good to drive.

  • Really like this SUV - 2008 Toyota Highlander

Bought this Highlander Sport a little over a month ago. So far its great. Fun to drive and tons of room. And the engine is much better than the Explorer or Subaru I used to own. Im getting just over 17 mpg pure city - no highway yet. Cant wait to see what it is on the highway but if its at least the 23 they list then Ill be happy. The only thing I dont really like is the EAS - electonic assist steering. Its a little too touchy/boosted. Id rater have a little more road feel. But it does turn on a dime. I did not get the upgrade to the JBL sound/sun roof/climate control - if you can afford the extra $2000 it is probably worth it just for the sound. Great vehicle overall.

soccer mom car carrying 2 of our kids & up to 3 others, has performed well in town. family vacation Denver to Southern California demonstrated excellent snow performance on non- stock tires (Dayton) which came with our 2nd hand purchase, we were on I-70 in a heavy Spring snow storm which closed the highway - we took a side road & re-joined without any drama. average 18 mpg in town, 22 highway.

  • Love my new 08 Sport! - 2008 Toyota Highlander

I traded my 2004 Sequoia since I have decided to go a litle more green in my life. I still need the ability to drive around 2 small children and was not going to get a minivan. The new Highlander fits the bill perfectly. Drives like a Camry not a truck, and is so quiet and comfortable. I got the factory tow hitch and running boards, Option A package. I will be adding the body side moldings when they get reintroduced with the proper adhesive. I have all weather floor and cargo mats, door edge guards and a few oil filters being shipped to me. Also waiting for the hood deflector to be released.

  • 2008 Toyota Highlander Sport AWD - 2008 Toyota Highlander

Drove the Lexus RX and GMC Acadia - dollar for dollar the best of the group. Interior build far surpasses the GMC product and is similar to the Lexus in build quality. Standard V6 provides good acceleration with AWD providing good traction in wet road conditions. Second row seats fold down easily providing amble room for hauling miscellaneous items. Sound system includes six disc CD changer, MP3, and adequate speaker support. The dashboard is perfect with attractive well thought-out design. Good head room, leather seats provide good lumbar support. 19 inch wheels add a great finishing touch to what is a great redesign of an already proven intermediate size SUV.

  • Great car! - 2008 Toyota Highlander

The power is great! The car is very roomy, with great features, with the back seat able to be turned in to bucket seats. Great visibility all around the car, feels very safe. The car is very stable, with the increased size of the car this year!
