  • Quality gone bye bye. - 2005 Toyota Highlander

The car has had noises since it was bought. Brake muffler on master cylinder installed wrong, vibration on acceleration. Took 3 days to find problem. Recall on retainer clip for floor mats. Recently steering makes clicking and felt like parts are loose. Car went in twice and took 10 days to fix. Steering shaft had to be replaced it was defective. Rear doors rattle when car is warm. Two trips to find problem. This is the 5th toyota I have owned. Never had these type of things happen on the others. So much for toyota quality when put together.

Have only had vehicle 2 months but it has been great. Handling is excellent and, its great to know Im driving what other evaluators consider the best mid-size SUV on the road. It rides as well or better than any car Ive ever owned. I wish the engineers had lowered the gear lever a bit to afford clearer access to radio controls; and the sun roof should have a buzzer to alert the driver that its still open when leaving the vehicle. The cargo area is ample and the seats very comfortable. I have friends who also own this vehicle and they are very pleased as well.

Roomy, full of pep on Interstates, many of the same conveniences as a Lexus, allows much better vision of highway and surrounding area than the sedan, and excellent six member family SUV. Best buy of a SUV of six researched and test driven!

  • A surprise - 2005 Toyota Highlander

I was reluctant to give up my 6 yr. old Honda Accord 4 cyl which I loved. Im surprised how much I enjoy driving this, sitting up high. I am getting surprisingly good gas mileage (22- 24comb.) I think my husband likes it better than me. It has tremendous power and quick handling. I dont know how much the Lexus costs, but Im pretty sure it was more than a few thousand more. And insurance was cheaper than a new Honda would have been. Good choice!

  • Highlander 2005 -- Lot of outside noise - 2005 Toyota Highlander
    By -

Purchased a Highlander last week. The performance of the vehicle is very good, and gas mileage is better than most SUVs. The only drawback is that you will be able to hear lot of outside noise. During the test drive, turn the radio off and drive on the freeway, and you will hear the cars passing you. If its important for you to purchase a quite vehicle, then, dont purchase this SUV as you will regret it. If you decide to purchase this SUV, dont purchase the additional KARR security, as this SUV already has a chip in the key for the iginition kill. Also, after market security systems are lot cheaper than the dealer, do some price comparisons.

I really love this car. I got the Limited, with the 3rd row optional seating. Its a peach going up I5 on the Grapevine in LA. It handles great, has great rear and side visibility, unlike some other SUVs. I wish the gas mileage was better though...

  • I love it this much - 2005 Toyota Highlander

This is one of the best vehicles I have ever had. It has all the right ingredients to make it a fun and eazy to maneuver sport vehicle. An SUV that also provides a hint of luxury. It has plush interior and slick external curves. With over 200 HP it still yields great gas mileage at up to 30 miles per gallon on the freeway. I have easily towed 3000 pounds. Mechanically the vehicle is sound I have not had one single problem. It has gotten me through 2 feet of snow, black ice, and a hurricane. Through all that it has always kept me and my family safe. I love the vehicle so much that when we go to purchase another vehicle it will be a HIGHLANDER.

  • Highlander Bad - 2005 Toyota Highlander

I bought this car based on Consumer Reports ratings. So far, the temp thermostat had to be replaced, I also had a wheel bearing replaced, and now I am told that a sequential humming is probably the differential - very costly. The car is herky-jerky and the interior leather looks more like vinyl. This is my last Toyota. DK
