My 2002 Toyota Celica gts hatchback has been extremely reliable and I have bought celicas since 1977. I am sad to say I will not be buying any more toyotas because they delayed so long in telling people about the accelerator problems. As a matter of principal, this is my last toyota.

  • Great MPG at a great price - 2002 Toyota Celica

I have had my 02 Celica GT 5speed since February 2013 and have had it on some long trips. Drove it from Upper Michigan to South west colorado and back. Even in the mountains i was maintaining over 30 mpg. While in the mountains at about 32 to 33 once we got to the flats i was between 36 and 37 mpg. For a car that sits so low to the ground and is light it rides very well sometimes I think it rides smother than my lifted Tundra. Havent been able to really test how well it does in snow to much as winter was winding down when i first got it but I can say that it does handle slippery roads very well. With not having any traction control or abs just make sure you know how to operate thus said.

I really enjoy the Celica for its style and performance, however the visablity is very poor. Their are several blind spots. The rear spoiler is right in the line of sight for the rear view mirror making it difficult to see whats behind you.

  • Great little car - 2002 Toyota Celica

Im 65 and have owned this car for 3 years. I plan on keeping it for the rest of my life. It is really fun to drive, it has excellent brakes, handles great, gets good gas mileage,(32 mpg highway) and is super reliable, Ive had zero problems with it. The only changes Ive done on it are going to 16" performance tires and a low restriction air filter. It is plenty fast when you need to pass on 2 lane roads. High speed stability is outstanding. Im 63" so it is a little tight when I slide under the steering wheel, but the headroom is fine. My only complaints are what everyone else seems to mention in their reviews, not enough low end torque, rear visibility, and rear seat room.

  • Glad I did it! - 2002 Toyota Celica

I was a little skeptical, but bought a 2002 Celica GT "certified used" with 6K miles on it. Without a lot of options, I got it cheap for a commuter car to keep miles off my more expensive and gas thirsty Land Rovers. Its really a blast to drive. Not too much power so you get carried away, but still fun getting up to the speed limit just a little faster than most. Great little car. Its no Bimmer or Benz, but adequate in all respects. Its been called a "chick car" but I can think of worse things than having a car that women appreciate.

  • slow for 180 hp and 2500 lbs - 2002 Toyota Celica

Over-all, I like this car. Handles well Toyota is strict about its warranty Few problems so far Ugly interior, colors dont match (yellow display; green radio?). Rear’s too high; cant see out back window. Blind spot’s too big.

What a fun little missle. It takes the daily drive and makes it an adventure. I have to watch the speed on the freeway because the GTS just gets more solid the faster it goes. Get the action package, with leather!

  • Exotic Looking Economy Car - 2002 Toyota Celica
    By -

Hello fellow car enthusiasts and I hope you are having a great day. My celica was one of the first to be made and I have had no maintainance problems. The car gets 36 MPG on the highway and handles very well. Calty Design Studios did a fantastic job on the styling. What we have here is an exotic looking car for the masses. There are two weaknesses. 1. The interior surfaces are hard plastic and scratch easily. 2. The paint is thin and chips easily.

  • Need 4 wheel drive for inclement weather - 2002 Toyota Celica
    By -

I was excited getting the Celica GT- S. People stopped me to tell me what agreat looking car. Then it snowed. This car handles poorly in inclement weather. It just doesnt hold the road. Trouble keeping car in lane when road has worn pavement tracks. Bottoms out on high drives and catxhes cement stopping blocks in parking lots. Cup fly out of cup holders.
