This Year's Model Updates:

While the traditional 911 lines have been retained, just about everything else has changed on Porsche's flagship. Notable changes to the 2005 Porsche 911 include more powerful engines, a new transmission, variable-ratio rack-and-pinion steering, an adjustable suspension and new seating options in a redesigned passenger compartment.

Pros:
  • Pinpoint steering, effortless acceleration, awe-inspiring brakes, the rhythmic sound of a powerful flat six, comfortable cockpit.
Cons:
  • Relatively small fuel tank, useless rear seats, outlandish option prices.

  • Best of all - 2005 Porsche 911

I own different cars, SL500 / 750LI .., this is best of all. You really feel a sport car from inside out. Not like other, change their style completely every 4 to 8 years, this sport can says out loud "Porsche". Its acceleration is excellent. The Tiptronic transmission can be enjoyed in both auto/manual shift. My only complaints are the vehicle is too low to the ground, hard to get in or out from parking lot and the Bose stereo system is not great.. It needs more space for the backseat.

Replaced transmission at 19000 miles and again at 46500 miles the total cost for the repair was $13500. Porsche refused to collaborate.

  • Goodbye SL500 Hello 911 - 2005 Porsche 911

After a series of problems with my new 03 SL500, I decided to roll the dice and replace it with an 05 911 Carrera. Wow, what a difference! The Porsche is a weekend car, and I love the way it handles through the southern California canyons on the weekends compared to the much heavier SL roadster. The six speed shifter is well designed and easy to use (although I have to wait another thousand miles or so on the odometer to really push it to the redline). Im also impressed with the fit and finish of the car -- so far not one mechanical defect. Ive owned several MBs and BMWs (my daily driver is an X5 SUV), and so far I dont feel the Porsche will be as problematic as past experiences.

  • If you like raw speed and handling - 2005 Porsche 911

This is the essence of sports car driving. A little rough as a daily driver but if you like track events you shouldnt buy anything else. A true race bred street legal piece of machinery. Youll have tons of fun answering silly questios from the kids in the tricked out Civics! If you can afford it....buy it!
