This Year's Model Updates:

Improved manual transmission shift feel (thanks to a shorter shift stroke), black-tone brake calipers, additional chrome accents inside and new softer leather upholstery. Auto-dimming outside mirrors are now available, and a new 12-volt power point resides at the base of the center stack.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • So-so center stack ergonomics, premium price without the premium nameplate.

After having 2 Lexus and a Toyota, I wanted a change. I bought a 2005 maxima from an older gentleman that never drove it. It is a fun and fast car to drive, but that is it. The rides stinks. It is the loudest car I have ever owned, the sunroof broke with in 3 months of owning it, a switch had to be replaced in the heater, and everything squeaks or rattles when you go over a bump. By far the worst turning radius of any car. It is like driving a tractor! This by far the worst quality of a vehicle I have ever owned. Not to mention the resale is horrible! Good luck getting rid of this car without at least 3-5k out of pocket. Junk!

I love the performance and handling of the car, but for the money, I wish that I had bought something more comfortable. The suede-type fabric inside is getting dirty after only 6 months, and moldings inside & out are beginning to loosen. The gas mileage is not nearly what I expected for a car of its size and class. My salesperson led me to believe that it would be good also. My husband & I are ready to trade for an Acura--similar price with many more features and creature comforts, and hopefully better gas mileage.

  • I wouldnt buy another Nissan - 2005 Nissan Maxima

Ive had this car for just under 3 years and have had all sorts of problems. First there was this weird "air leaking" noise around the front-passenger side. Second, The exhaust bracket started making noise right around 30,000 miles. By this time I had moved to Dallas and a dealership couldnt figure out what was wrong with it at first. I had to take it back to them like 5 times before they could figure out what was wrong with it. They fixed it and the problem came back within 6 months. Also, about this time, the cover under the sun-roof fell. Now, just around 60,000 miles the air condition stopped worked. I would not buy a Nissan again

So $31k and 15 trips to the dealership later, needless to say, def never buy a Nissan again. Cheap interior components, rotten egg smell, chipping paint & peeling grille, falling headliner, etc. etc. Too many probs, not enough cooperation from dealership; they never fix ANYTHING. A total disappointment. Ive spent more $ on rental cars than I spent on the warranty itself. It is fun to drive, but the issues Ive had outweigh the 265hp engine. The interior suede door panels are hard to keep clean & the mpg stinks. It is an extremely safe car (been in front end & rear crash). But, not worth the money or the dozens of trips to the dealership. Blah. HATE IT. Never make that mistake again!

  • Big Max, hold the cheese! - 2005 Nissan Maxima

This car feels more expensive than it is. Still cant believe its only a V6! It simply handles and peforms like no other car in its class... or is there any other car in its class??? I even get those snooty folks in their 4- wheeled German status symbols to take a second look... as I zip past them on the freeway! Overall this is one terrific vehicle, however NOT without it flaws. Nonetheless at around $30K, as MC Hammer use to say, "...cant touch this!"

After 8 months of driving this car i have to say i don`t like it as much as i did when i first bought it,to many annoying things for example the wipers are terrible in the winter, the cd player died in week one, there are annoying squeaks and rattles from the dash area something you shouldn`t have in a car of this caliber. To much wind noise at highway speed i am constantly checking to see if a door is open.I like to drive with my front window open a crack not with this car though the water will pour in. There is also a terrible vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds my dealer eventually got this fixed. The Honda Accord is a much better car and less money to bad it is so Blah.

  • Very unhappy - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I have had my maxima for quite some time now and Im just experiencing the problems. I now have to replace my transmission, which seems to be a common problem with this car. And the transmission is very expensive. We are trying to find a cheaper route than the 4,000 price the transmission company is charging. But before the transmission I didnt have any problems. I think its quite unfair that EVERYONE is having the same problem with their car. That means its a problem in the manufacturing of this vehicle..And to think I was going to consider getting another maxima! I dont think so! not a good buy!

I bought a used 05 Max SE in July, black on black with 20,000 miles. For the money I paid, this car has really impressed me. Mine is black with black leather and the 18" chrome wheel package; with aftermarket window tints it looks awesome. Ive gotten tons of compliments on its exterior looks. My complaints with the car are the same as others..wide turning radius, some cheaper-looking interior plastic, etc. However, the car has much more upside than downside. Awesome acceleration, good handling for a car its size, great sound system, and better than expected fuel economy. Overall, a solid option for those looking for a blend of performance, practicality, and style.

  • Our Maxima has been AWESOME! - 2005 Nissan Maxima

It is sad to see all the issues some are having with their Maximas. Ours has been problem free and we hope this continues. If the new one wasnt so expensive we would look at upgrading. Great car, and a great value.
