This Year's Model Updates:

Improved manual transmission shift feel (thanks to a shorter shift stroke), black-tone brake calipers, additional chrome accents inside and new softer leather upholstery. Auto-dimming outside mirrors are now available, and a new 12-volt power point resides at the base of the center stack.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • So-so center stack ergonomics, premium price without the premium nameplate.

  • Cant get repair parts from Nissan - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I loved my Maxima until the air conditioner died while on vacation (38000 miles) and now a coolant part which failed will be on back order for a total of 5 weeks before it it ships. I cant drive the car which only has 57000 miles on it. The Nissan consumer department hasnt helped so beware of the support you get after the purchase.

At 34,600 miles, my brake light and battery light began to blink intermittently. I took it to the Nissan dealer the next day and the service writer told me it was most likely a bad alternator. Four hours and $671.56 later the car was repaired. I did not buy the extended warranty so I paid for it in full. The next day I called Nissans customer service line to see if there were any recalls or if there was any way they could at least give me a break on the price of the alternator ($345.00). Of course, there were no recalls, and no, they would not reimburse me for the replacement cost of the faulty alternator. Sorry, Nissan, I will not purchase or recommend a Nissan product again.

I own a 2005 Nissan and I get lots of compliments and several friends purchased one after I allowed them to drive mine. Awesome torque on the highway, great maneuvering and handling. This is my 2nd Maxima and I really enjoy my car however, my a/c was out of coolant after @18 months. I only received notice about 1 recall, dislike cheap interior panel. Motor mounts needed replacing after around 86K

  • Love it! Hate it! - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I purchased this car 3 years ago and since I have had to replace the front struts for the third time with only 57000 miles its too much. My transmission started skipping and kicking at 52000 was replaced under warranty and now the engine Mounts which are extremely expensive are out. This is besides some electrical issues with the lights. So you can imagine why I hate it.

This is my 3rd Nissan Maxima. We had a 92, 97, and now 2005. Weve loved all of them, but this one is by far the best. I especially love the sky-view roof. I have been given compliments on this car wherever I go - at stop lights, car washes, drive-thru restaurants - there are compliments. We put the Nissan chrome wheels on the car this month, and it really spruces it up. A great car - Id recommend it highly.

Overall nice car. I had it for 6 months. Transmission is lazy in traffic. Dont step on it or your on board computer will show your MPG going as far down as 12MPG through out an average of normal and traffic driving. Most confortable ride ever. Make sure to opt for the driver preffered package. I didnt and I am sorry now. Stereo is great. Heated seats take a litle too long to warm up. Neat features that let you open the front windows from the remote (why not all 4, I cant understand...). Plenty of space for 5, comfortable with 4 on board. Overall, I believe it is a great car for the money. I cant wait to see what the 2008 will have to bring to the table...Its worth it and ready to move up

Poor cup holder arrangement. Too much torque steer when accelerating, Visibility toward rear corners poor.

This has been the best and worst I have ever owned. The car handles great. Gets 30 mpg at 70mph. Wasnt expensive. Beautiful to look at. But it has been the most un reliable piece I have ever had the displease of owning. Bought the car with 100k. Two weeks after buying it transmision rebuild($4400). Then broke the cv joints because the transmission stressed them slamming into gear before the rebuild. Them a complete suspension rebuild. Now it need timing chain guides. Memory seats never worked. I have had over $8000 in repairs to this car and now..... The transmission is goin out again at 160k. Cant wait to get me an american car. FIrst and last Jap car I will own.
